I can not believe this has happened, after all my labours tragedy has bestruck me.

It all began when I was happily editing away on the map builder, then something happened; my screen went BLACK. So using my limited computer knowledge I atempted to fix it by using the handy outa recovery tool. Everything was going well until a message poped up from the config screen telling me in computer language that my windows instalation was screwed up!

In the end the tecnician had to come and reformat my whole system, the only thing that was saved was my documents NOT my maps, they were all gone included what was to be my most epic yet!

My beatiful Northrend map: GONE! God hates me. For one second, perhaps even two I thought my life would end, but I've now started work on a new map but it still sux bigtime :(

And you need to make a post about this why?

Because I wanted to share my feelings with the rest of the HIVE as I thought fellow map makers would sympathise with my plight, obviously I was wrong...

Good luck mate " )

Thank you, you are most kind.

Yaaah.. You prolly were making this map for 10 years and it was just about to be released.

umm.. yes thats right actualy, well I'd been working on it for 2 months straight and now its gone. Have you ever been kicked in the balls? cos thats what it feels like.

LMAO

why did u get a technician to sit for 2 hours watching the format bar?

huh? I dunno if he was watching it for 2 hours but he did something to it that fixed it but had to wipe my hard drive.

There are deviceses called USB flash drives (AKA a USB memory stick). Although they do cost like less than 1$ per 100MB, you may wish to get one as they are highly robust (far more robust than any hard disk), rewritable atleast 1000 times and data stored on them can be read by any computer with a USB interface and accompaning file system software to read format it was formated to.

Although not as fast as hard disks when saving the map (cause writing method they use is a lot slower), they should still save a map in under 2 seconds. Especially if you use it just for backing up, you can store dozens of versions of your map + other data so that if your PC does crash like it did, you atmost lose a few hours work.

If it is a multiplayer map, you could even give it to a friend as a backup or even attach it to this sites pastebin for a tempory backup (up to a month without any changes).

Basically, the moral of the story is to keep backups of files created with a lot of effort on other backing storage devices.

Where nobody cares what you are feeling if you can't make a funny picture or video about it.

Nobody will feel pity for you, you can either get up and do something better or cry the rest of your life for your lost map, what will you do?

Edit: Beware of trolls

Please say you didn't PAY this guy to destroy your files?

If so next time you can send ME your harddrive and 40$ and hour to smash it with a hammer.

Well I heard formatting is for noobs :P and it don't sound like fixing the problem to me if you've got to wipe the whole disc.

cos a real man is not afraid to show his emotions? I didn't cry actualyas I don't cry. Thank you to all the help ful replies, I have a stick so i can back up my maps once week, the good news is I had my old maps put on a stick so I havnty lost everything! But yes the map in question is gone forever.

umm the tecnician had to replace the video card too, that was what original broke but then it was me trying to fix it which caused windows to be corupt so in a way it was my own fault.
