Falling rocks damage and path block - mechanic idea

Hello,

So I got that fancy idea of a mechanic where you destroy a singular rock, and then more rocks collapse, blocking the path while damaging the units in the area of collapsed rocks.
Later you can destroy these collapsed rocks to unblock the path.

I think you have this kind of thing in SC2.

Even though I technically have some ideas on executing this, my iterations haven't been successful so far. I'm also not sure how to portray it realistically - camera shake, some themed custom models? Yeah probably.

How would YOU approach this, and most importantly - is it possible to create something like this?

If I were to approach this, I would first look for a rock model that has a collapse animation. Because that would make things much much easier and possibly looking better, too. Simply detect when a rock is destroyed, create a collapsing effect from the animation, damage or kill the units within range, create another rock to block the path.

But if I can't find any, I would probably have to be creative by using available resources. Perhaps, I will use ancient protectors missile and change their height over time to create a falling rock effects. Create a bunch of them and you have falling rocks effect! Same steps as the previous method except for this one I have to create the effect myself through triggering.

So, to answer your question, yes! It is definitely possible to create something like this. However, to make them as smooth as a butter and look somewhat natural is a different story. One could definitely try, though!
