Diablo III Warcraft Beta v1.19b



This map has been based on the Diablo III Gameplay Video. You may even recognise a few of the in-game events if you've seen it! Please remember that this is a beta version, and may still contain bugs. Anyone can host this online, just let me know if you find any major flaws in the game :)

Atlast you finished. Sorry i couldnt show up. But i should have been to bed when the games started. I managed to stay up until now, so lets just hope my parents wont see me, cus then i cant play v1.18 in the next week XD

EDIT: You forgot to change the pictures under "classes" in the desciption. They still show the old models/skins of the heroes.

Here is my full bug-report and review:

First for the bugs & suggestions:
- Skarlet armor did not give +2 armor
- The camera system seems to be laggin a bit :S Just make it smoother, add some padding seconds.
- I got 30-40 fps while I got not below 60 in the previously 1.17, so there is some performance issues
- A suggestion: You might wan't to show some text-info when you try to drop a item in a wrong slot. etc. This class can only hold one weapon.
- A new icon for mana pots? in-inventory
- Golden Rod's aura is a character abillity which is showing in the hero's action menü, with a nice icon but with 'Tool-tip missing'
- I did not see any (Shoulder-pads, Boots, Gloves, Rings nor' necklesses) so I was constantly replacing other slots like the chest, helmet, pants and weapon and still having empty slots.
- Not a bug I guess.. But there are this cave in the outside area, whenever you enter it, you get to the outside of another cave, and we were like, "hey, a secret area", just to find out that it's right next to the one we entered? If there was like an extra boss, it would be awesome, but really? It's a unnessesary feature in my opinion
- Those trees in the end, was invunerable for a long time while they attacked us?

The inventory is well done, and of cause since it's the first version with it, there are a few items buggin', there could as I said earlier, be some text when you do an action and it's not possible, so we know why we can't place a chest in the weapon slot.. (4/5 for a smart and simple design)

The abillities is simple and not very triggered, but I like em' :) (4/5)

Creeps are way more diablo'ish in this version, more damage, less hp. One or two strike kills, the bosses could have a bit more hp, and a slightly damage reducion in my opinion, since these battles are very funny and well done :) (5/5 for the diablo feel)

The models are well choosen, I like all of them, nothing else to say.. (5/5)

wow :) ty for the in-depth review so quickly! :)

the messages about the inventory ara definately a good idea :D Would be handy if players we un-certain which items belonged where etc :p Nice idea!

Please note though, the autobalance system balances the creeps to the number of players :) E.g. 6 players = full health, 1 player = 1/6 health :) It could probably do with a little more tweaking though to make it perfect :D

and yes :) We're planning on adding a wider variety of items for the coming versions :)

  • Hero abilities can use more customizing. There is little difference between the Barbarian and the Tauren Chieftan.
  • The border around the inventory is very annoying in the way it is constantly flickering.
  • Terrain is even better than before. You fixed the disappearing bridge issue, but now it seems that there is a lighting one.
  • The new skins look even more diablo-ish. Very cool.
  • Inventory system is very good, although a little empty of items to fill it with at the moment. I don't really like having to open it up every time to equip a potion though. It would be cool if potions automatically went to their designated spot.
  • The bosses are even cooler, with plenty of sexy SFX. Although fighting the Crypt and Abom was a little boring compared to the main bosses as they just stood there and attacked.

Review

Terrain

Terrain is looking even better than the last time around. With a darker feel, an increase in doodads placed in better locations, and even new ramps and paths redone. Everything just works. Warcraft Action-RPGs. aspire to this.
Gameplay

With the HP decreased and attack damage increased, this feels even more like Diablo. Getting in a full house is a blast. With all kinds of SFX going every which way. Each class is balanced and serves it's purpose well. Bosses are extremely fun and epic. The health and mana orbs keep the action quick and moving. Abilities are assigned to the QWER keys which makes them very accessible
Interface

A custom UI, custom icons for everything, and a full-screen inventory system all help to change the feel of this game from Warcraft to Diablo. No green-icons from what I saw. Ability icons fit well. The shrunken in look is very nice.

Problems:

-Mana potions show up as healing in inventory
-Spelling errors
-Witch doctor *Dispatch causes some lag by a crowd of enemies*
-1 Major lag spike before the first even when you fight the *blue ghosts?*
-1 Major crash bug *Got the blue screen* by first *insect?* boss
-Some ladders you can't climb down

Either way when I seen the major like spike and I got the bad crash I didn't continue after that.

Before replying, I'de just like to remind everyone that this map is in BETA stage, so theres going to be some bugs :)

Yea, I noticed the Wizard Colour bug last night after release :/ It happens because the wizard uses a hero-glow attachment, which sometimes bugs out a bit and resets to its default colour, being red :) for the next update, ill make sure the wizard model has its own hero glow :p

I also know what you mean about some of the bosses :) The insect one im not too worried about because hes only a minor-boss, but the Thousand Pounder could definately do with some work :)

ya camera shackles, also while facing the Skeleton King, my camera went through the ground

Me and red discovered that the other day. It occurs when a player experiences low FPS, or minimises the game for some reason :/ The camera appears to get out of sync xD We couldnt work out what was wrong with it, and we also didnt want to miss our release date :) We'll get it fixed though :)

hmm... im unsure what you mean by "Leaking stairs" xD As for the healing globes, they exist, they just randomly spawn. You may have just been unlucky :)

As for that mouse bug, it seems pretty major :S I'll investigate it :)

Btw, the inventory blinks on the edge, dunno if anybody noticed it but it's kinda annoying.

Red mentioned this to me at some point :p On some graphics cards, the inventory background flashes. This is because the black tiles are too close to the ground.

We didnt really have enough time to fix it properly for the v1.18 release, so as a temporary fix, I raised the surrounding black tiles but had to keep the center ones lower to prevent the inventory from being hidden :) We'll definately get that fixed properly for v1.19 :)


great new version but it's a bit too easy might want to rebalance the first monsters a bit, and is it the meaning that the wizard can carry Barbarian and witch doctor items?

Right now, any player can equip any item, however, we're going to change that for the next version. By v1.19, players wont be able to pick up items they cannot use to prevent hording :)


i have found a critical bug.
donno if this happens often.
But as i oppened the inventory slot 4 times in 10 seconds my wc3 crashed :p
this should not happen^^


I see :S I've never heard of this bug before and we never exxperienced any crashes during our many tests :S I'll take a look into it just in case though :p

sometimes Warcraft 3 just crashes for no reason occasionally xD It's happened to me on other maps which normally run fine :p

Opening the inventory also crashes the game sometimes for me, and when I try to add a second healthpotion to the quickbar it always crashes.

I havent had that problem either. Maybe its because you guys changed to v1.24. Always remember to change back, when you're gonna play a 1.23 map.

Btw, how much time do you think will pass before The_Silent will be finished with all the custom spells?

Well, I believe he's done but waiting for the skill tree to be done so his spells can be fully utilized.

Wonderful map. It amazes me how much this feels like an actual Diablo game.

I'm curious though about your current plans for development. Are you guys gonna aim for trying to push out a quick 1.19 version that is a bugfix of 1.18 or roll it into a big release for next version?

I believe that we're going to keep pushing new releases as quickly as possible and only implement large systems once they are working and tested properly. :p

Weird and simple in both cases.

It's as if the map isnt there, just displayed by an icon.
As i just noticed, the map as 1kb.
Even the one i downloaded here again.

I guess it's a single case.

Well, I downloaded the map and it is playable. Anyway, you could try to refresh the map list by removing all Diablo 3 maps from it. I believe that version 1.23 causes some issues.

The last version took way too much time and if the next version is gonne be as big as the last its going to be a long time untill we get 1.19. And that "All I can do is limited" means just something like extra week...

We'll carry on with our old update model before version 1.18. In version 1.18 we just had a huge road bump with implementing the inventory system. Until the skill tree is done we won't implement it.
