The cliffs are angular and unnatural. Also, since when do you have flat rock cliffs that go parallel to a road? If anything, cliffs like that would be jagged because of the blasting required to clear a road. Either that or they would deviate from the path a little, and probably be covered with boulders and shrubbery.

This is a modern road, but the cliffs would be excavated in a similar fashion anyways.
