Crypt.blp

Well...
This is a re-skin for the undead Crypt, in order to make a rich mansion out of it.
I wanted to make something different from the original model, since the Crypt is so much undead-stereotyped (bone masonry... not sure it holds for long...), and there were not many skins made for it.
So... here is my rich mansion!

Update: Have I forgotten to say it is also my first skin?

2011 08/21; 18:16 (french hour) - Changed the plants to make them look less like shiny plastic.

2011 05/10: 17:08 (french hour) - Updated with a lighter 75% quality version.

shiiK: My main concerns are the bold outlines, flat textures and use of too many highly saturated colours - overly cartoon-like style if you will. It could perhaps use some more shading as well. Furthermore, the leaves on the corners look nothing like leaves, and I don't think they fit the concept any way, so it'd be better if you removed them altogether. Lastly, the filesize is a bit high compared to the general quality of this as well as the usefulness. You should try reducing the filesize; remember that setting the BLP conversion quality to 75% will in most cases not reduce the quality of your skin at all, but setting it higher will dramatically increase the filesize (to no real benefit).

Well. Thanks for your comments.
I will seriously work on the leaves. I made them because I found it too easy to alpha-remove the claw-like thingies at the corners. And it is still my opinion.
There has been at least one other skin for the Crypt, the Church of the Holy Light, which is rather good too. Actually I must confess it inspired me. But it used much alpha-removing for the most undeadly parts. It's not game for me.
Also, yes, I know, this skin is rather cartoonish... My hand drawings are also cartoonish. I can't help, it's my style. I promise I will work on it. Anyway, Warcraft III is cartoonish.
And for the smily thing... this part is not displayed on the model... So, I was bound to draw something here!
Seriously, yes, I'll work on the leaves.
(And anyway, it really looks nice on the Imposibelus! Nice model, Misha! Too bad the letters do not write Pyroproctos in greek like they do on the Crypt!)

Actually, the ''cartoonish'' look makes it seem great to me. WC3 does possess some cartoonish features. So, to me, it fits perfectly!
+rep (forgot to give it before)

very well done reskin. it is quite similar to l0w kwality's reskin by looking at the similar colour tones and the whole general idea basis. but none the less, its pretty damn good. I'd like to see what you can come up with yourself. and with a bit more practice you might be up there with the top skinners ;)

Top skinner you say? can i maybe.. grab him for my models? :xxd:

lol, jokes aside, keep up the good work, dude :)

what's w/the smiley face?
I explained it in my previous comment. It's here because it's not displayed. Stands to reason, doesn't it?

Well... I'm not very keen on getting grabbed... But if you ever need some skinning work, perhaps I could practice on it. Not before September, though. I'm a bit busy these days.

Looks cute. Do you use the tablet?
Thanks. Well, actually, it was made with the mouse. I own a tablet, a large one (I even have to push stuff off my desk to use it), but I don't feel easy with it. I should practice more, to get used to it, mouse art has its limits.
(My avatar is a portrait of me I made to test my tablet)

I would try to make the shields more interesting, give them a larger variety of colors for the heck of it, and see what works best!

As I said, I considered it too easy to remove the claw-things on the corners. I tried the leaves, which I considered would fit the model best. I may upload another version without the leaves, for the most phytophobic members of the Hive.

Er... I should try. But for the case of the shields over the gates, they were originally skulls, and I'm afraid the texture stretch would make any kind of pattern look terrible.
And the ones on the top of the corner towers are team-colored (by the way, I recommend displaying this model with a blue TC, so the shields match), and the texture at this place is so small-sized that any pattern would look awful.
Anyway, the simpler is the coat of arms, the purer (i.e. more inbred) is the family.
