The dragon's nest looks like it has cheeze on the floor..

I think the camera here is too low.. or the terrain is just too flat..

But looks cool all in all..

Hope I can try the map sooner.. :D

I just thought of a kick-ass idea (though not 100% original) just like Soul_Reavers campaign (To the Bitter End) and Maker's Current Project; Powerslave, I will use a limited number of heroes (for example, 4) that will venture through the whole game. What do you think?

-Also this way spell and hero balancing will be easy.

Like mine.....? Quite a good idea but I cant imagine how your game will look with 4 heroes.... but I really prefer multiple heroes here because its quite bad if this game has only 1 hero but has strong Bosses.

I just suggest that make multiple heroes that are only needed! What I means is dont make many heroes that will not even serve a good purpose in battle.

Hello MasterTrainer, I just played the alpha of your map, Clash Of The Elements. Here are my thoughts, as well as any bugs I encountered:

First of all, the terrain was very good. I liked every part of it. However, there were a couple buildings I could walk through. A couple examples are the lumberjack building and the huge barns. I also liked your quest system and how you state the rewards. The Stag quest had a minor aesthetic bug though. When I killed my ninth stag, I checked quest log and it said "Killed 9 out of 10 stags (Completed)" or something like that. You should probably fix that. Also, the Mayor's quest seemed to have a Deer icon. A couple other things about the Mayor's quest were that you had a few typos in the dialogue and that it's possible to activate the Mayor dialogue over and over and over again by walking up to him. I saw a couple commas instead of periods and I also saw a no-space error (connected words). The bugs I found with the Bard's quest were that his Songbook has no tooltip, the description of the quest in Quests said that he had lost his guitar, and that the Alchemist was vulnerable. One other bug I found with quests is that the player could take three quests at a time, but when he tried to take more, "You can only take two quests at once." Now, some other things. First of all, the Fruit Stand seemed as if it was supposed to sell something because it had the Select User, but it sold nothing. The "Proof of the Stag Death" was sold at the Marketplace, but had a quantity of zero. Accepting Jen's quiz but pressing back still activates the cooldown. The Stag has a Grunt soundset. Also, it is possible to run out into the (empty) world. Critters give battle points when killed. (Kill those crabs!) The Mayor has a Select Unit ability, but I'm not sure if this is a bug or not.
Now, my suggestions. First off, make more people in the city. This is a huge city, shouldn't it have tons of people? Second, let the player get experience from creeps after level 5. Next, make the lumberjacks invulnerable. The player is able to kill them for Battle Points, gold, and experience. Next, although I do think custom minimaps are cool, I don't personally like them if I can't see what the terrain is like. Please don't use the minimap. Next, I do support your decision to put more than one hero in, but don't make more than four heroes. Lastly, what is the purpose of the shipyard?
I haven't read many of the previous comments and I'm sorry if I reported any bugs you've already fixed for the next release.
However, I totally support this map.

Oh don't worry about these stuff I have considered them all in the past couple of weeks and have fixed a majority of them. Although there are some things that still baffle me is the max quest size. I'm trying to fix that. The Hive Quiz (since I'm still pondering on how to fix it) has now no back button. But sure enough you have noticed most of the things that the others haven't really. And you also noticed the small things I left as "tests" to find out if people really played their best.

But sure enough hopefully by the day after tomorrow I can fix the remaining problems. If not all of them, at least those with most priority. I also added now villagers and corrected some typos and such.

Thanks for the feedback SeedinAethyr. The next release is coming very soon.

P.S. The shipyard... well it was actually for a cinematic intro I was hoping to use in the game's latter, once I have made sufficient
progress.
Also, about Jen's Hive Quiz, I don't think there's a possible way to reset item cooldowns via triggers...

Bro, just some suggestions in the Hive Quiz in your game. I think the questions are quite easy. Yes, because if you are gonna let Hive users play this, they will know what the answers will be and for the new ones, they will just have to minimize their Warcraft and also browse Hive. How about making the quiz longer or making questions hard or not easily noticed by others but still about Hive?

I must play it as I love you map. However, is there a cinamic on reciving quest? Also I can't submit(?) the quest. Is it because it is a Alpha?

Before I release the Alpha tomorrow, please be aware of some bugs and other things that I need more time to fix or change:
Beware:

  • The Bowman (new NPC' offers 4/6 quests) has a bug that makes you only do his quest (Arhgos- Bossfight) once in a game and try to take another quest from him something weird happens
  • The Bowman has some quests that are unfinished yet
  • The Elven Village has no function yet
  • The promised AI hero has become an AI Boss
  • Maybe some minor typos

But don't worry I'll fix these soon enough. The next Alpha will have less errors and will feature the complete terrain. The mentioned release is in three weeks, and will feature more of what's on the first post.
UPDATE: I have fixed the first bug and most of the last bug.

Well, I mean finish a quest... I don't know which word to use. --
Finish? Complete? I hope you guess the meaning.

Also, if there any custom hero/skill?

@Legendary well, that "expectation" will be lowered in this release. But only in this release (Alpha 1.1) because there are a hell lot of things missing and needs fix.

Bu from my view, it's still better from the first version of the Alpha. =)

EDIT: BTW, I'm nearly done.

EDIT: I'm going to the dentist temporarily. I'll return in a few hours and release the map.

Try it now and enjoy playing!

Played 1.1 of Clash of Elements and here is a quick review yet helpful!

CotE 1.1 ALPHA Review
[+] Good Points
-Rich Terrain
-Beautiful and well-made custom Heroes
-Custom Skills fits the hero and is cool
-Quests are somewhat interesting in this game, not just you go kill and kill, gather and gather. Its very unique!
-Awesome bossfights!

[-] Bad Points
-Rich Terrain yet has some flaws, some grounds in Ground Zero are Raised too much making it kind of ugly!
-Units have improper scaling size. Demetrius the Hero is quite big if you compare with the villagers, Villager Joe is too big, and Lumber Jack is also big.
-The shown Game texts in the intro are messy like when it showed "Clash Of the Elements then "Chapter 1"

[] Suggestions:
-Fix the flaws in the terrain
-Fix also the scaling size. Some looks bigger than expected.
-Fix the messy texts at Intro Cinematics

Still, the game is so epic and awesome. Quests are quite unique here and also the bossfights are awesome! I rate this 4/5 if I would rate. Well done, MT, +2 REP!

Thanks Hell_Master and Legendary for the feedback! +REP to 'ya.

A word though:
The overall terrain problem I'm having in my map is, as Legendary said, its distortion, so fixing it takes me a lot of time.

I will fix all flaws you found Hell_Master in the terrain.

The scaling size will be adjusted to the normalities you mentioned.

Night bane, Legendary, Lol I forgot about him. He was supposed to be in the cinematic, but I though he could be the final boss.

Thanks to both of you for your hard work. =)

Okay, at MasterTrainer's request, I am re-reviewing Clash of the Elements.
First thing I noticed (that I didn't notice before) was the misspelling of distant in the map description. I also like the beginning cinematic, but seeing that it only serves to introduce the story and gives no 'important' information, I think it should be skipable. I like how you've made it impossible to click on the villagers. However, it seems as if you've given the player full map vision. And you've also given the player control of a creature named Night Bane. I'm very certain this is a mistake. Now, some other stuff. when accepting Villager Joe's quest, "Getting the Beast Pelts" is displayed on the screen, but in the quests it still says "Getting Rid of the Stags." Next, on the Hive Quiz, when the player is asked about "Who is the user of the year?" it begins with finally, even though there are two questions after. I'm also curious as to what the answer is to "which is the oldest dreadlord?" I've tried all four answers, yet none of them have been right. Actually, nevermind. It seems as if you have disabled experience gain. (Why?) I also can't find a way to complete the stag quest. Perhaps it is because I've killed 12 stags instead of 10? Your quest system still seems to be buggy. In an attempt to complete the stag quest, I accept Joe's quest again and it says "You can only accept 3 quests at once." Then, I go and complete another one of my quests and try to accept the quest from the bard. (I have 2 quests active.) Then the game says "You can only accept 3 quests at once!" Huh? And then when I try to accept another quest from the bowyer... "You can only accept 2 quests at once!" What the hell. You also forgot to play a message to the player such as "1/5 Forest Wolves Killed" when the player kills a wolf. Oh... now I've found it. The "Stag' Death Proof" was lying near the lake near the wolves. Another thing I realized. Although you update the quest log when the player kills one wolf, you don't update it any more after that. Another comment I have is that Stags give (much) more gold than wolves do when killed. And... one other comment. Battling the bears, wolves, and stags is very annoying. They just flee when I strike them, run at me, are about to strike, and then run away again when I hit them. Also, those crystals in the forest don't make sense with the rest of the landscape. They look cool but... eh? I've also realized that the spell breakers outside the gate are vulnerable. And also... it seems as if you can take Jack's quest twice. And now I've pretty much messed up my game. All the quest givers are shouting "You can only take 3 quests at once." at me, so I'm not really sure what to do. You've made a lot of changes from the earlier alpha, but the earlier alpha also didn't allow the player to mess up his or her game like I did mine. However, I do understand one thing. The bug I've encountered might not be easy to fix, but I still have faith in you. Good luck with new releases!
I'll test this map again sometime soon, but I also gotta play on Battle Net with my friends, finish some of the other single player RPGs I've started, and review more maps.
(Remember, just because I've given you all those bugs doesn't mean I dislike your map. I've just really messed up my game right now, and I'm sort of frustrated. I still support you!)

Bugs:

- After you collected 2 Construction Lumber its says quest finished but it only shows 1/2 Lumber in the Quest menu.
- If you talk to the Lumber Jacks you can get the Quest again and again, you also can drop those quests. (screen2)
- Quest "Lumber is Needed" i dont really know who gave me that quest. I run around and looked for the guy. So i tried to give the lumber to villager joe, it worked. My lumber disappeared but my quest was still not finished.
- After the "get rid of the stags" quest i got another one (different name) but actually it was the same quest again !
- If you skip the cinematic (pressing "ESC") the intro appears (Mastertrainer production etc) but few secs after that the cinematic goes on. (it actually only happened for me when the women was talking)
- I did the "lumber is needed" quest twice. The second time i did the quest i picked up both lumber. (it seems the quest was already finished after the 1st lumber) Unfortunately after picking up the 2nd lumber all my lumber disappeared. (so not able to finsih the quest)
- "seeing the mayor" it looks like there should be a cinematic because both characters are talking but nothing happens at all.
- after i got the letter from "seeing the mayor" it also tried again to give the letter to village joe again and he took it again.
- after doing 2 optional quests i wanted to pick another one but it said "only 3 optional quests are allowed" (i only had 1 at that time)
- "going to the market" after you gave ferm 1 cheese the quest was already finsihed

What i didnt like, some things that i would change (but thats not bugs):
- Stags give gold.
- Stags are as fast as the hero which kinda sucks because they run away if u hit them and slows down the quest. And remove their attacks, deers which attack ?
- You can leave the city because of a hidden path in the forest. (screenshot)
- If you finished a quest Questionmarks should appear on the head of the questgiver.
- Write in the quests where you got the quest from.
- Make it possible to skip the cinematic. (it sucks to see it 3 times in 30 mins :D)
- You can walk through some doodads (like those stones close the village jack)
- I dont know if its supposed to be but u can repeat the "Lumber is needed" quest
- rescale some NPCs. stags bigger than village, some villager twice as big as their neighbours ?
- some of your tiles are pretty nasty. (espically those gras ones which change the color on their edge) it also is shown on screen3.
- make the cheese stackable

Positiv:
- i do like the village a lot of quests which makes the village pretty alive !

Negativ:
- there are so many bugs right now its almost impossible to play the game. (i had to start 3 times and than i got sick of it :goblin_yeah:)

I highly recommend to remove the map first of all and get rid of all the bugs i (and the both other guys) posted and than play it by yourself at least 2-3 times before u upload it !

Right now you just scare ppl and might they wont come back for another version.

But in the end the map will be nice im sure but not right now ! dont fuck it up do it right, get rid of the bugs and release a decent version. dont rush into this !

In the 24 hours of this release, many bugs have already been spotted. I will fix them all (if not all, a majority of them) and release 1.1b a long time after this post (maybe two, three or even 4 weeks at most) and I promise you all great change.

It was just before I uploaded the map, while I was testing it, I was just taking all the quests and making sure they worked properly... so that's why I forgot to check out the other bugs. But nonetheless I will avoid fucking up future releases and, as Shapy stated, I will not rush into this.

Thanks for all your feedback (if I only had a team of experienced coders and/or mappers this would go great... but I am stuck at a two-man team (me and En_Tropy, though I rarely ask him for help these days...), but still thanks for the suggestions nd pointing out the positives and negatives. +REP :)
