This is a collection of the crap I've made. (Only the ones worth showing of course.)

If you have any questions as to how I made one, please ask me. I'm always happy to help. : ) I use 3ds max 2010, Mudbox 2010, Maya 2010, Softimage 2010, and more. Mostly Mudbox and of course 3ds max.

And no, I do NOT use plugins. Everything a plugin can do, max can do. You just have to spend more time.

And, btw, I will give the files to you if you want them.

EDIT: They are all fairly large images. Feel free to make them your desktop backgrounds or something. I can get them to you even larger if you'd like. I personally use the ocean one as my background atm.

Pretty cool. You made that smoke cloud with FumeFx?
I like your style ;)

lol. No. I never use plugins. Everything a plugin can do, max can do. it just takes more time.

I made a mesh, then added a cellular displacement map, then add a lot of complex material work, and then added a glow effect, and then copied it, made another mesh (of the explosion at an earlier stage.) and had it morph into the first mesh. Thereby, creating the animation. It's a very common method. And, honestly, it isn't that complicated when you do it. Although, I really should have done better with the material. It looks very cartoony atm.

And those Mars and Earth pictureres are 3D models, too??

Yes.

I made a sphere, added the textures I got from nasa. (clouds and terrain) applied bump. Add a background plane, then make a white self illuminated sphere and gave it a glare camera effect from the video post. : )

Oh, and for the atmosphere, I made a gradient ramp material, that had the entire middle opacity turned off, and the edges, and applied it to a sphere a bit larger than the planet sphere.

It sounds complex, but it isn't. : )

Yeah, I know, but that doesn't mean that it's neccesarily a bad thing to use them. Using FumeFx would've been easier and probably would've looked better too.
Plugins are used by professional companies as well. I know for a fact that DreamScape (Made by the same company who made FumeFx) was used to make the water in the cinematics of TFT.

But nice work ;)

Well, yes. Plugins can be great. I'd just rather not pay more for something I could already do. Technically speaking, plugins just remove the coding work required to complicated tasks. It's like getting a preset. It's not bad, it's just not required. : )

unfortunately, modellers arent in high demand, animators are.

Very very true. But, I can do everything else. (Physics, animation, architectural modeling, sculpting, rigging, particle systems, etc.)

The thing is, I make more money atm than I would if I were to start a career anywhere. (Despite popular belief, if your good, it's easy to get a job somewhere. Even without prior education or experience.) But, after fifteen years of a modeling career, I could be making 200k a year. Yeah, it's good stuff.

But, I think I will wait for a couple of years. In the mean time I will be practicing. In a year or two, I may start doing a little bit of freelance work on my off days.

Oh shit! O_O
Those are really nice!
i love all those glossy things, are you using parallax and specular maps, or is Max doing that for you?
The anatomy of that sea monster-thingy looks gorgeous, and i like that city render too.
It kinda reminds me of Halo:ODST or killzone (which happens to be my two main model topics, lol)

I almost never use specular maps. XD Because, I always make objects where the model has the same specularity all around. So, I just turn the overall specularity up. :D

Do you make models? : )

Uhrm.. forget easy, do you?
A few months ago you asked if i wanted to make a model pack with you, lol. So i guess i make models. ;)

I don't use speculars too often either, but also i'm not very used to make models that are rendered entirely within the modeling program.

haha that is you. I suck at remembering names... Sorry about that. Ya I totally remember you. Just not the name. XD I feel stupid now.
