Blackhand

This bundle is marked as high quality. It exceeds standards and is highly desirable.
Whew, I made it :)

I almost gave up on this guy, after running into serious problems exporting him. But I did it :)

As the title suggests, it's a model of Blackhand the Destroyer, Warchief of The Horde during the First War.

He was a joy to make, a nightmare to export.
Because of complications in the export, the final animations ingame are not quite as good as I would have liked. Hope you guys are not dissapointed.

Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

Hope you like it.

Give credit when using yadayada.

UPDATE: Just a small update to make his skin a little greener, found out it was a little too desaturated compared to other orcs.

UPDATE 2: As per moderators request, I increased his size, fixed the dissipate animation, gave him more blood and made his bracers team colored. I'm not adding more team color than this though.

UPDATE 3: Decreased his filesize significantly enough to warrant another update.

UPDATE 4: Made some small changes. Added a global animation to the hero glow, added weapon glow and fixed some minor bugs.

I'm just about ready to approve it... However, there are a few issues that I'd like you to fix or take a look at first. First of all, the model is a too small in-game, standing shorter than almost every other hero. I think simply stretching him upwards a bit(making him taller) and increasing his general size ever so slightly ought to fix it, but you should check in-game by comparing it with a hero like the Blademaster or the Paladin. Secondly, it absolutely NEEDS more teamcolor. The shoulderpads are the most obvious choice. They stand out and are visible from any angle in-game, therefore I think that making them teamcolored is pretty much a no-brainer. Additionally, you could add teamcolor on the big belt buckle(instead of the belt itself, which is too thin to be visible in-game), the gloves and the boots.
Next, some parts of the anatomy bother me a little bit. His eyes seem too small and close together, and it's especially obvious when comparing his portrait to Thrall or the Blademaster, or even the Grunt. Spreading them apart a little and upsizing them a bit should help. Then, his nose looks too "squished", although that may be intentional. It could also be upscaled a little bit. His tusks are too flat for a hero, considering that several Orc and Troll units have full 3D tusks, and finally, his head itself looks too small and "squished" - messing with it while comparing it to other orcs should help, but again, it may be a design choice. It just looks rather strange, especially when looking at other orcish portraits in-game.
Then, I also noticed a few very minor clipping issues - his cape is clipping with his back in most animations, and with the right shoulder as well, and belt clips through the belt buckle during Attack and Death.
Another minor issue is that he has too few blood splats for a hero. Compare him to Grom or other heroes, and you will see that you need to add more blood during his death animation. After all, his blood puddle looks pathetically small for such a massive orc.
And finally, the Dissipate animation lifts him up too little, and is overall too short. It lasts 3.5 seconds, traditionally, and takes the hero way higher up into the sky.

Deolrin: This is an exceedingly well-crafted model, with a lot of obvious care put into it. Very much well done. The changes are more than sufficient, though I'd still love it if you could tweak the other little things I mentioned - or at least take them into account when you release more models. Great job! :)

So it's released good:)
---------------------
I noticed some things at it: during death animation, he swings his axe?
The portrait animations are pretty gorgeous.
Other than that it's pretty sweet:)
---------------------
The file size is a bit high, but I know you've done your best. Great job man.

Thanks! :)

Yeah, that was actually on purpose. I sort of wanted it to look like he was trying to get one final swing before dying. I just sorta get the feeling when reading the book, that Blackhand would be too stubborn to die without taking as many with him as he could.
Dunno, does it look weird?

Hehe, the dreaded file size. Yeah.. That's a problem with most of my models, I go for quality instead of quantity, and the sizes end up pretty large. I did run it through mdlvis and optimize the blp file though. Not sure it can get much smaller without actually deleting polygons. Hopefully people can still use it though.

Amazing! Great textures, smooth model, great animations. He is very useful for WC1, Azeroth Lore Themed and other various themes related with warcraft universe. So amazing to see that WC1 characters get to be in WC3!
If anyone thinks this model has file size too large then download a tool from Tools's section, it's called MDX Squisher. 5/5

This is pretty interesting. Do you by any chance take animation requests, btw?
Tried using reteras partial animation tool, but eh, it's tricky to learn.

It depends. If it's something fairly simple and easy to make, sure I guess. If not... Well, I'm pretty busy IRL lately. So if I'm gonna take on something big, it really has to be something I really find interesting. Otherwise I just don't have the energy for it.

Simply a superb model here, Tauer. As far as I can tell, it works perfectly in-game and the custom animations really hold and show off the right character for Blackhand. He is just as imposing, commanding and powerful as I would have expected. Truly spectacular.

If I had to make any critiques, I would say that the size of the model itself is extremely puny, but this can be fixed with a tweak of the scaling value in the World Editor. Other than that, I can't see anything really wrong with it.

5/5 And a vote for Approval from me!

Thanks! Yeah, sorry. Forgot to write that in the description. He is a little small compared to normal heroes, like Krasus is. Just set the scaling value to 1.2 or 1.3 in the WE and it should be fine :)

looks quite nice, though i didn't test it so far in magos. 2 suggestions only:
1) i think the troll headhunter's texture (the part for the tusks) would fit somewhat better for the horns
2) the handle of the axe looks OK to me, but i think it would look better with some ingame texture (maybe from the OrcWatchtower)
Both suggestions are only optional. The model looks well as it is, though deleting the aforementioned parts from the skin might also decrease the texture's filesize a bit.
