Best abilities for dragons

Here's something... Let's think about dragons and their roles. I mean... in all kind of lores and all that, what could dragons be?

I know of dragons which act as simple beasts (the usual classic fairy tales dragons, the knight that slays the dragon), dragons which are revered as gods (as in... mythology, maybe chinese...), dragons which become companions to heroes (e.g. dragons ridden by some heroes)... dragons which are wise creatures that give advice to certain characters (e.g. the dragon from a mountain that is searched by some hero so that he may get some ancient information...)... is there anything else?

Well, Spyro and Aztec Quatzequatel do count in my opinion... both of them are dragons, each in it's way... When i said lore i only meant it as an idea. Your point about a dragon as main character is good. I remember "I of the Dragon" (game) doing that...

Fire Burst Laser!!
He released it from his jaw'z, then, the fire blast laser to the enemies (Just like Icarus (DotA Hero)). But has casting time and buff or model'z attachment on his jaw'z like ball'z with increasment size, then he released it to blasing out enemies on their line'z!!

In theory... it's not necessary for the rider to be undead if the dragon is undead... yet it's more likely, since a living human/other race humanoid wouldn't ride an undead dragon, at least not if it has some common sense.

The same goes for the dragon's humanoid form. (Unless he's some sort of "illusion master" and turns into non-undead humanoids in order to fool others.)
EDIT: P.S. I say "humanoid form" since it's not necessary for a dragon to turn into a human...

Can I imply something? My idea is that the dragon needs it's wings not only to fly but for other uses, sort of like a major Organ...

Idea: The dragon has fairly large wings with large sacs filled with acid, the ones located near the body are smaller and are classified as stomaches as the acid is the digestive juice needed for, well... digestion, the system inside the dragon melts certain part of the prey into a semi liquid/solid state so even prey larger than the stomaches can fit in, thus the need for more than one, the ones located on the tip of the wings are natural poison, for self defense or offense, it firsts stuns the prey after an hour or two and after a week or so if it is not eaten it dies and secretes a strong smell that most keen smell sensed creatures can smell it, repulsive to other creatures but notifies the poisoner that the prey is dead and ready for scavenging. The ones in the middle are the ones Males don't have, only females, these are sacs of hormones secreted into the tiny eggs, two sacs on each wing can grow the tiny eggs, each about the size of an ant, the sacs of hormones burst upon the eggs and make them larger day by day, but the molecules in the eggs dont get bigger, they stretch instead, so when they are big enough they blow up (not explosively) and release the dragons inside, the hormones are still in contact with the baby dragons and are effective until the dragons become adults, when that happens the hormones are transferred to the hunting poison I mentioned earlier. note that when the sacs containing the hormornes burst they do not regrow, thus only able to reproduce once, they later regrow into Poison sacs.

Okay im sorry if I ended up describing most of the entire dragon but I need to put it out or i'll forget, plus I want your guys opinion on it for my book or a posssible unit...

Also Im kinda new here so tell me if I have spelling mistakes or if I broke any rules.

What you are saying is indeed possible and quite interesting. Though... this is based on the presumption that dragons use magic to fly, which is not always the case, as we know many cases in which a dragon is hit in his wing and falls, like any other flying creature.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Did I read that right? Hormones make egges larger? I don't think that that's how it works. Eggs don't grow in size. The creature inside grows to fit the shell until ready to hatch. The only description of an egg blowing up is explosively. THe egg shells shatter as the interior pressure becomes too great for the egg to maintain. However, that's going to produce some seriously dense or dead dragons. If the pressure didn't kill their growing bodies inside the shell, the pressure change will, even if it's not immediate.

As for the hunting style, very plan oriented. Poison on the wings should probably act faster. If any prey is smart, they would wash the poison out as soon as possible.

Sorry, my mistake, I really suck at Biology :(
okay the egg idea wasnt really thought about that much but the idea is given out, anyways the hunting style, mostly prey tiny or slightly bigger than the stomaches could rarely run away from the dragon much less survive the entire stab of the claws on the tips, I hadnt implied the size of the dragon but generally the Stomache isnt that big from the body itself, unless im mistaking the biology again. The chemical that would make the eggs larger would be something other than hormones, yes, also the dragons dont grow until they are out of the shell, and yeah okay they wouldn't explode, but maybe thin out or something like a far too stretched bubble gum? These things don't follow normal laws of Nature, otherwise imagination would become useless when trying to think of something new.

also another point I forgot to mention, the wings arent really used to fly because of all the sacs of poison and digestive juices etc. there is no space for the wind to get caught into the leathery folds of the wing, there isnt much of a leathery fold anyway, it's really heavily armored because in my explanation if the wings are gone then they lose the ability to hunt properly, reproduce and digest hence the Dragon is completely useless, although when the Hormone sacs are gone I suppose they could glide, so my Dragon is most likely a land Hunter.

Anyway thanks for thinking of it as interesting :D

It is an interesting point of view... and a new one, nonetheless. But, you have to think that if you're stretching too far from the usual dragons you basically invent another creature... (just stating, i'm not implying anything.)

okay ill keep that in mind, but the skeletal structure and muscle base are of a normal dragon, looks like one too without seeing the under-side of the wings, just saying they do things in a different way.

Yeah, sorta. I know it's kinda weird... and unusually comical in the way you say it, lol. Okay change that fact the dragon could grow with the egg, there is no point in having a giant egg hatch and reveal a midget dragon.

Edit: one of my original ideas was to have the mother feed the babies with the poison, the poison sacs originally would have... uh... tentacles of some sort with sharp bone at the end as an exit point, all 'my' types of dragons would be immune to the poison but to the babies it would act as some sort of 'milk' to a reptile, even though milk is for mammals.

In some lores or stories dragons are considered some sort of godly creatures, therefor they have entire kingdoms under their ruling and they usually choose a few people as guards, giving them powers or maybe turning them into dragonlings.

personally I see no sense in Dragons having the ability to talk, because the way I learned it our tongues allow us to pronounce words, and Dragons being reptillian their tongue is different than ours, although telepathy would exist like in Eragon, but I prefer Primal to Modern (Survival to Luxury) and the idea of a Dragon commanding Humans and sitting on a throne disturbs me... But it is possible in our imagination :)

Just because they might not be able to speak perfectly, they might still be able to make sounds that are close enough to words for us to understand (like parrots who also have a very different tongue and a beak).

They might also develop their own communication system different from ours.

Usually, as far as i know... most dragons are given the telepathic ability to speak... therefor they don't need their tongues at all...
This is, if we're talking about dragons who can speak, because there are those who simply can't because they're not meant to.
