Can classes be attended in Persona 2?

I tried Personas and i wasn't impressed. I need games where classes are part of the game, not something optional. One of good of them is Dawn of Magic.

This sounds like a really strange fetish.

One of the Sony platforms (PS3, PS2, PSP) had one where you were some sort of magic student, and I think I remember a DS game where you were an alchemy student, but I only glanced at them. I hope knowing they're out there helps anyways.
