Introduction




Black Winter is a map project I've been working on for several years and through several totally reworked versions, finally to reach this point, a nearly finished map with some exceptionally nice features, one of which, no other maps have, a system that literally exists no where but this map, which I think is pretty exciting. The object of the map is a simple one, you're dropped off in a remote region by the Russian army, to conduct several operations of salvage, search & destroy, rescue, etc, while surviving hordes of violent zombies. There are several available classes to play and several locked classes that can be earned with experience by completing missions and killing zombies, each class has different specializations, and some eyecandy quality spells. There are several guns, which can be equipped, regardless of class, yes, regardless of class, a Medic can carry a Dragunov SVD, or a Demolition Specialist can carry a Dragunov SVD, weapons do not rely on your class. Suppressors, Laser Sights, Scopes and other items can be equipped to any gun you are carrying, universally, except rare cases, for example you can't put a Suppressor on a flamethrower, that's just silly. :D




Classes



Classes are always subject to change, as new ones are being added and locked at any given time, but the classes as of now are like so.

1): Commando
2): Field Medic
3): Demolition Specialist
4): Combat Engineer
5): Spec Ops
6): Assault Trooper
7): Heavy Support
8): Commando



Most of the classes share 1-2 abilities, Critical Hit and Combat Training are commonly shared, Combat Training decreases reload speeds and increases base damage. Critical Hit obviously gives a percentage chance to do 2x-3x-4x damage etc.

The Terrain is looking mighty sexy as we stand. Though I do admit that you could spread out the tree clusters just a bit, would make it feel more natural

Nice to see a completly overhaul of Black Winter. I can't wait for the offical release.

Won't be too long now, working on uploading a rough gameplay video right now.

Looks neat. Also you reminded me, since you have been looking into shadows and stuff why not calculate shadows using the editor ?
They aren't too great but still.

For some reason I can't get World Editor to properly generate shadows, it crashes during the process every time, even if the map is empty, any insight into this?

Nice hope you're still working on your other map.

It's on hold, but I'll probably work on it later down the road.

It can be very wonky I guess, when you have more doodads around it becomes unstable. Try not to even touch the mouse, lol. That is how I did it on some of mine. (I just put it on my laptop to render while I was doing some other stuff on the desktop)

Though that is weird if it crashes even when your map is empty. I usually had it crash/freeze only when I had a bunch of doodads around, especially in tight clusters where more doodads merged into a big shadow.

I'll try and let it run over night tonight. And I got your shadow trick working, it's just extremely difficult to line the shadows up properly with regions.

Update: I've broke weapon attachments into categories, undermounted, top mounted and barrel mounted, and added chest items, i.e. Ghillie Suits, which are equipped and unequipped just like guns.

Currently there are two weapon attachments, Laser Sights, and Suppressors, Laser Sights increase damage by 15% and Suppressors decrease it by 8%, while giving invisibility while shooting.

Added a new class, Heavy Support, who is pretty much the highest dps class in the game with rapid fire, and belt loader, which allows you reload more than 1 clip at a time with any gun except for flamethrowers and laser rifles.
