Still you should spin it it by 90 degrees by X and Y. So it would fit villager model as an attach. I also recommend you to take a look at different weapon attaches on the site, so you could make it fit villager perfect.

Edit: done what you told me. should be under the right angle now
what peeps are trying to tell you is that the model should face forward as Retro said, and it's handle should be at the center of the origin, aka, where it would be if it was between villager's feet. size should also be looked at so it's not too little or too big for the certain (by default; villager) model
