XP or Vista?

I am thinking on buy a Windows Vista.
but, it compensates the spent money? Or the Vista just have a better interface? The Vista can make things that was working right on xp stops to work?

here is a list of games which are working/not working.
The site is on german, but you only need to know what the colors mean.
Dark Green - läuft = Runs without any problems
Light Green - läuft = Runs, but smaller problems or tricks necessarily
Orange - läuft = Runs for some users or only very bad
Red - läuft nicht = does not run Run (absolutly not working ^^)

you mean direct x which is often sortened to DX. it is a rendering system used be nearly all games now and it is developed by microsoft, if you have played half life you may have heard of open gl which is an alternative to Direct X but isnt as popular anymore.

this is what i know about the situation, correct me if any of it is wrong:

Direct X 10 graphics card are required to run a Direct X 10 game, this is Nvidia 8000 series or some radeon thing which hasnt been released yet. you cannot run a DX10 game on any other graphics card

i think you need vista to install DX10, i read this somewhere and i dont know how true it is.

one of the two games you mentioned might be Rainbow 6 vegas, which i read has a DX10 option, i havent played the game so i cant confirm this.

DX10 is needed for alot of new games including crysis and alan wake.

you can run DX9.c or less games on a DX10 card.

i dont think they will create completly new cards in order to use DX10. A new driver will solve that problem.

NOOB! THEY ALREADY HAVE! Nvidia Geforce 8800 is a DX10 card. DRIVERS WILL NOT FIX ANYTHING. Yes, they do expect you to buy all of those things! And Yes, only Vista supports the new DX10, and only a DX10 card will allow you to experience DX10 on Vista.

DX 10 is so advanced than not even the new gen game systems use anything close to it, the X box 360 uses only DX9.
And DX10 is actually a complete rework of how graphics are made and so it renders more efficently.
NO DX 9 OR XP MACHINE CAN RUN DX10

i also read that people are trying to make a hack where the system bypasses alot of the new things DX10 has so that a DX10 game can be played on a DX9 card. for example if there is a new lighting system then the lights will simply not exist but it will still be able to run the game. i dont think this will work but some people obviously arent willing to buy a new card and vista...

Hmm, I don't think that'd be possible, but if so it would result in a lot of problems. DX9 and Dx10 are so vastly different that I don't think the two can ever be compatible with eachother, no matter how much l33t haxx are involved.
