As somebody completely brain-dead when it comes to programming I'd say yeah, it is daunting.
Second thing I reckon, is the fact that the free unity offering is a lot inferior when compared to cry engine and unreal seeing how most of the essential features (like LOD, occlusion culling, lights/shadows all stuff which frankly sounds horribly important) are locked to the costly pro variant and that the UI is not really something people would call user friendly when compared to other SDKs.
But you never know, I might try at least something for starts.
Maybe things like importing and setting up assets, making prefabs and level design ? If there is anything on that, or if you personally have experience in that I'd like to learn.
