In my opinion, WC3 was cast aside a long time ago. Sure, there's still a moderate sized player base but Blizzard has long since forgotten about it. The only people who still play WC3 play it because they are either DotA players, fanboys or part of the modding community. WotLK won't do anything to WC3; those who ever had plans of leaving the WC3 scene have already left.

Meh, I can't see WotLK stealing many people, since it mainly just appeals to endgame players, not new players. It will be interesting to see where the story goes, though.

Sc2? Well, people are STILL playing SC, even after the superior-in-every-way WC3 came out, so who knows, maybe it will be the same for WC3, the core of devotees hang around while everyone switches over the to the bigger and better. It's like going on Battle.Net on ROC. There are still a few people determined to use it these days, even though the majority have switched the superior-in-every-way TFT.

If DotA gets reincarnated in SC2 (there are rumors of hero otpions being available in the editor but not in the single-player parts) then this wont be a problem. then perhaps WC3 will finally be free of the DotA plague.

It's pretty much certain. Blizzard has already mentioned DotA, and they added an optional inventory in the WE.

Or they will release WC:DotA in a year. An upgraded WC with no WE so Blizzard can control DotA and make profits off it.

ehm.. can they just take over the map without the permission of the creator(s)? i have no idea and i would probably get comments like 'Blizz owns War3 so they own every content within it' but dota does tournaments for cash.. doesn't that make it a bit more eeh? thing gummy?

Of course they can. The game isn't property of IceFrog, and Blizzard could easily take control of DotA, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. The game is made in Warcraft 3, using their editing tools. If someone was to make a flash game based on Dota, then sure, that would be theirs to copyright, but for a mod within Wc3, all content is property of Blizzard.
