Hey,

I'm currently re-creating the Skeletel Warrior npc from WoW. It might be finished today or tomorrow I'm not sure yet.
Every time I finish a piece of the model I'll update this post with a new picture of the piece.

(I need suggestions for what unit to copy the animations from)

erm...skeleton anims maybe?? o_O

I'll try them out when it is finished.

Edit: Just finished the chain mail around his head, going to work on the shoulders now. The poly count will probably be around 700-900 so it shouldn't be used in large amounts.

Edit2: Finished the shoulders, probably going to work on the ribcage next.

Edit3: Finished the Ribcage and Spine, Working on tattered cloth bits. Looks like the model will be a bit more high poly then I thought, the new estimate is 800-1100. (The model will need to be a special unit with high resource costs.)

Edit4: Took around 30 min just to do the first piece of cloth mainly because it was hard to figure out how to place it onto a skeleton. The upper body is mostly complete minus a few things like arms. Working on the arms and pelvis area next.

The model that I finished looked like crap so I'm re-doing parts of it.

ok like Fan said, latest WIP was just...well...not as i was expecting..
the arms are too short and you need to redo the legs. i would also suggest making the shoulderpads bigger.
try making his body structure look more like this:

Yeah I did rush it a bit during the last few bits. I'm going to test the version now with animations, then I'll re-model the arms legs and pelvis area.

Edit: Just began re-modeling some of the stuff. Here is the belt and belt-buckle, I probably won't be including the hanging head (not sure though). The next thing I'm going to attempt to make is the boots.

Edit2: Realized that I already modeled a foot for my "Titan" doodad series, so I just deleted a few meshes combined some stuff and re-textured it to make the boots for the skeleton. OFC I tried to make them look like the model from WoW but I couldn't get it to look right. The model just hit 1k Triangles and almost 1k vertices, my estimate for the end result is 1.3k... It might reach 1.5...

Edit3: Decided not to even attempt to make the hands by myself, so I took the hands from the footman on the human campaign screen. The model is around 1.17k atm, I think that the 1.5k is a more realistic estimate now... Kind of insane for a unit (1.5k is around 3 normal orc grunts I think). Looks like this model will need to be only used as a boss monster or something along those lines.

Edit4: I seriously didn't want to increase the polys by 300-400 with the skirt so I went with something a bit more simple which only adds around 20-30, I will then layer one or two more little things on with it to make it look a bit more detailed. <3 transparent cloth, its helping make the model look really undead.

Edit5: Finished, he just needs some animations now. I tried to keep the polys down with the bones again so I just kept it as a while bone for the arms and legs instead of doing multiple parts which would increase the poly count. The model is at 1.32k polys.

Everything's fine now (and looks much better) but I suggest you to remodel the legs, as they are just some simple boxes right now :/ Also, make the hipps a bit smaller. Other than that, it looks really cool. I can do the rigging if you want me to.

The legs, arms, and hips are like that to save around 300 polys =P

Yeah that would help.
