Hahahahaha, absolute gold. Thank you for sharing.

Why do you study?

Well the reason to study changes as we grow. As a kid, I was told to study and I didn't have a choice. Soon, I studied because of fear that failure is the ramification of not studying. This is probably how a lot children/young teens think.

Personally, my hatred of being told how to spend my 5 weekdays and home time (school and studying) and my insight on reality set me away from studying. Reality being that good grades at school isn't everything in life.

Now I am simply at a position where I have finished year 12 at school and have not progressed into further studies simply because I don't like studying. Unsure of how I want to go about my career, I am working part time in a simple job until I decide how I want to spend 8 hours in 5 days of the week every week until I am old and cannot do so anymore. I'd be open to putting my head back into the books if the job I desire requires so.

I'm sorry, that's my life's story. Is that what you were asking for?

well you have been told to do so...so yes, its a valid reason, but quite frankly most of us here may have the same reason, coz we'd like to do or build our own future without anybody telling us what to do, but I can also say that we started everything learning from others, whether from our parents/teachers and even our dog :D ...

This is a revised question on the topic 'What do you study?'...so, what's your purpose?, to learn, get a good job and better pay?, for your future? or some of it just for fun?...

mckill2009, you already pointed out the obvious so why still continue a thread like this? majority is that everybody needs money to survive and that's what we are all after.

coz of...
This topic is in general, meaning study/learn how to program/cook/walk/run/basketball, etc...
learning how to run 'fast' is not a part of survival unless you're chased by a hungry zombie ;)...

I suppose it was my post in Linaze's thread that motivated this?

Well, I study to have a decent quality life and not have problems with the money, ever. I suppose I should just do what people said and study my passions and not mind the money, but I can't disregard that university is also an expensive investment.

I also have another reason: currently, this country is under austerity, Europe's “rescue package”, like Greece. A person who's out of high school has nowhere to go.

Sometimes, I sure would like to be like my colleagues who just went for the usual Biology degree. At least half a thousand students are out of the universities yearly, I'd really like to know what they do after that, especially those who don't proceed to master's.

But I didn't say anything that life is fast though :p

I kinda forgot to post my reasons, my course right now is information technology or in short I.T in the business world, never should I realize its field is too huge so finding a decent job or the course that I really intended to work would be daunting which right now I like to work with networking, multimedia, and programming but since I'm more stuck to network building I left myself a little fluent in the programming world.

Also I kinda forced out my belief about people needed money to uhm, coup with the daily basis, but to conclude all of us needed that and by means of future advantages it really does, especially on harsh countries with bad government issues.

I am a student of BS Psychology.

My purpose thats why i am studying is because i want to know my self , to know who am i , to know my talents etc . . . This is the most important is to know your own self . . .

In practical purpose , Individual's studying because he/she want to get a better job , so he/she get a high salary .

Studying not means you are studying in school, Studying means that you get a knowledge and wisdom from your own experience of this world .

I like knowing shizzle. I already liked some things as a kid, like history for example. Anywho, I studied because I had to. Now I study some things because I like them and they help me understand stuffs. Like physics, chemistry, math, history and biology. I also study because I want to get into a good college and get a good job. Because money (and the biches). But I think the point is to study for yourself, not because others tell you so.

I've noticed that a huge part of the education system here(and probably in most places) is fairly pointless and even stupid.

However, I still study. I just do it my own way and for my own purposes.
Why? Cos in this country the paper that proves you've gone through school is often more important than your actual skills and knowledge.

I also study programming all by myself, because I want to.

Warning /!\ For ages 18 and above only:
I study because I can, and I want self fulfillment. It would be a waste if I didn't. In the past, sovereigns thought it bad for the masses to be educated, since they will learn to demand for things and they won't be able to hoard all those shit and riches for themselves. Most kids get the wrong impression that they need to study to please their parents, your parents are working hard to send you to school, not for their sake, but for your own, so don't
fuck
school, because if you do that, you'll just be
fucking
yourself and your parents. This is my stupid opinion. KBai!

Please tell me you are talking about the United States; I feel the same way :)

I never really studied for much in school, except for math and French. I actually liked those two subjects, so I actually spent time working on them. However, I couldn't care less about the money aspect. I think it's all a lie anyway (Studying -> Better Grades -> Better College -> More Monies)

in my country, it's not a lie
perfect grades = perfect work = much more moneys you can earn
normal grades = standard work = your payment will always the same
bad grades = bad work =
  1. you got higher payment than standard work but it will needs your body to work on it (like construction worker, etc)
  2. you got low payment because you are half-working
now it's your choice, how the life you want?

That's what I imagine it's like in South Korea, not the United States.

south korea?
i don't know that..
i'm from indonesia not south korea

I didn't know that... Indonesia most likely has a similar education system to South Korea, except that they don't have as much religious instruction in the latter. I am from the U.S. and I met an Indonesian teacher once. She came from Indonesia to the U.S. as part of a program to learn about the United States' education system.

I study school lessons because of several things :
1. To gain Knowledge
2. To avoid parents and teachers wrath
3. To beat my rivals

I study programming (starting from Lua) because :
1. Not many people really do programming, it's pretty rare you find a programmer in our country
2. Programming usually leads to job with good payment in future
3. I can make Games

Actually I'm talking about estonia, but the same things do apply to many places, such as US too.

Well, there are some developers, but I found that most Indonesian Games are rarely played in our country (what a shame I must say), also, I did some research (that opinion was my presume), most of our people only play games such as DotA, LoL, and other famous games. I want to make our games that has been developed over the years to shine in International Games by making my own and present it at a Big International Site (I.E Hive Workshop)

maybe someday ☆i will do just that as well☆

That's going to be hard, kids like to play games that are considered "cool" by their peers. Just keep going.

To get smart.

Studying for a future economical advantage in all other cases than when you have to is extremely sad.
One should be aware that his/her work will amount to nearly half of one's waking time, it'll diminish one's
spare-time energy and you'll end up living a short life only for weekends and vacations, ensuring that what
you do when you work is enjoyable is essential to a good life.

Obviously, if you enjoy a high salary education then I hate you.
... And then you're lucky. >.>

I'd say, only when you live in a country where a low salary job will make your life misery.
- And nothing more.

so you're not? and you're unlucky?

No, not unless a psychologist is considered a high salary education.
- In a case where what I want to study doesn't equal a good salary,
then yes, I guess I'm unlucky. Don't confuse that term with unhappy
however.
