Ok ok ok, make it fictional realism then. It has blood, gore and a overusage of firepower&aliens in it but still maintains a realistic way of uh realism!

I think you could actually make a good film out of Unreal Tournament; you can focus on one character and his rivalries/loves as he beats his way up the ladder -- lots of kick-ass fights with actual character interaction in between.

UT would only make a bad film if you were really unimaginative with it; the Unreal universe is actually very interesting and the little character blurbs in the game are more than enough to get started.

I agree. Although lots of games could make good movies of "you do a good job". You could take almost any game and make it a cool movie "if you do a good job". I think most good directors stay away from video game movies, that's why they suck.

Edit: Just remembered, Doom was an alright movie. The part where it went FPS was the only real atrocious part.

Actually they made the Devil May Cry anime. It sucked to me... I don't know for you... You may like it.

As for the poll, I voted Diablo.

As I have just explained can easily be avoided by putting some actual thought into things.

But that's the problem, there wont be any thought at all. Video game movies generally throw away just about every vesitge of plot from the game and do things from the ground up when making the movie.

They'll go for the mindless violence crap over plot any day. Take Hitman for example: It could have been excellent if they had really delved into the back story and fleshed out the Agent 47 character. Intsead, they just decide to make an ultra-violent gun-toting-badass style movie that sucks.

This isn't a problem with game movies; this is a problem with Hollywood itself. The 'big' film industry has forgotten what actually makes a good film, and plumped for cheap shocks and high-budget special effects (and the game industry is following happily in its footsteps).

Yes its true games are now just explosions. No more plot Like Warcraft and Starcraft and Diablo the newer games that actually had a plot were FEAR not the Expansion Perseus Mandate that sucked. And Black & White its awesome to be a God!

Brad, your forgetting that LotRO had a (again, any confirmations?) better (and/or best release) than WoW release. And I forgot what I voted for exactly, but I would DEFINITELY like to see a Starcraft movie. No Night Elves, no Demons, but lots of Marines, Zealots, Zergs and Lisks', and, of course... NEW-CUE-LAAR' (as in President Bush, duh) LAUNCH DETECTED (meaning action, obviously).

This may be a tad off topic, but they're also making a Dragonball Z movie. Movies based on stuff for kids is becoming popular these days.
...But then again, I did make this thread.

Lord of the Rings online is just a clone of WoW, although Lord of the Rings does have a great storyline, they just copied WoW in many ways. Take your MMO debate to a different thread. I'm not trying to flame.

Also, Half Life should never EVER under ANY circumstance become a movie. Why?

1) Because it's too good to get wrecked in the conversion to movie. A game series of this magnitude should never have to endure that kind of treatment.

2) The HL storyline is COMPLEX AS SHIT and so it would have to be dumbed-down a metric ass tonn in order for it to get put into script form.

 Diablo... Ehehehehehehe.

Well it would make a good horror movie, for me.
If they would make a movie of Diablo then I hope the Special FX would be convincing, and the make-up thing would really make an actor look grim and scary.

Starcraft DEFINETLY. That movie should have been made long ago. Aswell as warcraft.
These two are to gr8 to be destroyed by a movie if its bad.

Half-Life should stay as a game the in-game plot would be ruined if it were converted to movie.
:thumbs_up::grin::fp::xxd:

If a Half-Life movie got good directors like Michael Bay or the guys who did the Matrix working on it, it wouldn't suck. Why do you have such a low expectation for Hollywood, Brad? Oh yeah, if they got the writers for the game itself to help with the script, that would help.

The thing is, we have no CLEAR picture of what Gordon Freeman is supposed to think like, act like, or even speak like. If you've ever played the game, you'll notice he never SAYS ANYTHING, and that you NEVER go out of first person.

Anyways... I'd like to see a Starcraft film. Not enough good space-action films. Besides, how COOL would it be to see live action marines against live action Zerg, or Protoss? ...MY LIFE FOR AUIR!

And, there are VERY close chances to seeing Halo come to the big screen. There is a short live-action trilogy based on the games, made as a sample, I think. I forgot their names, but one of them is called "Arm's Race". You should look them up on google or something.

That's not the point. The point is that we HARDLY KNOW about Gordon Freeman. The guy is so mysterious, with no backstory that is known other than being an MIT graduate. He never speaks, so we don't know what he would sound like, and he just SAVES THE WORLD, SO WE NEVER WILL KNOW WHAT HE ACTS LIKE! It's like saying "let's make a movie about Link from the Legend of Zelda!". Technically, NO ONE SPEAKS in it. And everyone does things differently throughout the Zelda games. So yeah, sorry, it doesn't work.

No, Half-Life is way to complicated for the average moviegoer to understand, and couldn't be done decently in the typical length of a movie. Personally, I think Crysis or Far Cry would both make awesome movies if they were done by the right people (i.e. not Uwe Boll). Several times during the course of Crysis I found myself thinking "This would be PERFECT in an action movie." They've both got interesting plots that aren't too complicated, and they've both got good enough characters.

1) Michael Bay is a fucking idiot. All he does is glorify explosions, with no depth or plot at all.

2) Half Life would just be one big explosion if Michael Bay directed. Half Life is about the massively complicated story, and condensing it into a movie just wouldn't work.

3) I have low expectations because EVERY SINGLE movie based on a videogame ever made has sucked ass.

Resident Evil was actually pretty good. I liked it better than the games (despite never playing them, but I saw reviews and gameplay footage).
