What do you expect from a 5 dollar game?

A fair lot, actually.
You can get amazing games for 5$, such as Borderlands 2, Watch Dogs, Dishonored, Shadow of Mordor, Arkham Knight, Assassins Creed Black Flag.

Just need to find the right site. I know 2-3 sites that throw daily discounts to dozens of titles and most of the mentioned once are included.

Yes.

Video games can be very cheap, when you buy them in the right place at the right time. I remember buying games such as Homeworld, Earth 2150, Virtua Fighter 1 and 2, Heretic II... each for 1 Euro in retail stores.

Not a lot, event for indie titles, 5 dollars is rather cheap. Unless it is on sale, it is probably trash.

$5 might not be the right price for any new, unknown video game, because of customary pricing:
