When answering, remember that you, as one person, would probably just die and not affect the outcome at all.

Nah, I'd go see a war of the future. See how it goes and possible steal some tech and warp back to present. Or well, if I was there I might as well call it the present and stay there after the war ends.

Dunno about the wars of the past, they're all pretty horrible and not cool at all.

I know, but since we live in Modern Tech Days (where we can make robots and such other chaotic War Machine unlike the past), then if we borrow them to the past, it might change everything, this just like you borrow the lamps to a time where Thomas who invent the Electric Lamp hasn't born yet, now, people would say who invent Lamps? Thomas or you?

Why would you want to go back in time and die in a (probably) pointless war instead of living your life through?

I would NOT change a past conflict.
Instead, I would bring up freaking T-Rex from the past and mesmerize the present! Oh, also those ancient era viruses that may or may not be cooler than present ones; in case melee-range easy-to-shoot-at lizards fail it's always fun to have a bioweapon alternative.

No, really, why bother with either coping with primitive conditions or creating a new infrastructure when you can reshape your own time?

If I was able to bring proof with me which would show I'm from the future, then I'd go to WW2, to Germany. I'm pretty sure Adolf Hitler would be the type of person to not immediately kill someone from the future who has indeed have proof with them of being real, and not a faker.

I'd work from there.

That brings to my mind the amusing thing people sometimes say; "I'd go kill Hitler if I could travel in time".

What they mean is; "I'd get beaten to death by bodyguards outside the door". Or even if they got close, Hitler would probably beat them up.

This got me thinking, is Adam's situation some kind of (religious?) metaphor, he's got no freedom to choose...

1. Go back to the middleages, 1199 [Robin Hood Anyone?] And be a Man-at-Arms / Serjeant or Sergeant-at-Arms AND!
2. WW2, Allies, either an American Marine [JAPAN IS TOO HOT!] Paratrooper [Fear of heights :C] or Soldier [D-DAY NOOO!] with an BAR, Thompson or M1 Carbine in my hands, without the folding stock. And most preferably on the European Front because the Pacific is too hot.

The problem here is that you are from the future so know everything.

If I was to go to WW2 and help the allies, I could tell them many of the battles in advance. I could tell them where they were going to attack. I could even tell them where their enemy leaders are at any given time. It is basically cheating with not only maphack but with foresight as well. I could give them 21st century computer technology, explain the principles behind nuclear bombs so that they could get them decades before the other side. Heck I could just go before WW2 and stop the whole thing from happening by shooting the future leaders with a gun before they were big shots.

Equally well I could join the other side and help them take over the world. Since I am from the future I know the weakest spots of all the other sides and what they know. Conquering UK? No problem just keep bombing London even though there is a weather warning for a storm that never happened and they will surrender. Russia? Just pretend to attack them, let them destroy their cities but instead retreat and keep bombing them if they come after, they will be so weak you could conquer them later. USA? Well thanks to my future technology just nuke Washington with a ICBM and GG.

Yeh this is why time travel is rigged. All you need to do is find someone who believes you and you literally take over the world as knowledge is power and you know it all. You choose what happens as your knowledge is ultimate. USA as part of UK? Warn about the rebellion in advance and have founding fathers executed. Germany rule over all Europe? During WW1 get them to not charge over the trenches like the British and instead work on developing nuclear weaponry instead (since you know it is possible and does work). Napoleon ruler of UK? No problem, learn French and tell him to not attack Welington at Waterloo and instead to set a trap. Julius Caesar supreme Emperor of Rome? Warn him of his assassination and let him do all the executing.

Only problem would be the middle ages where proving you are from the future is virtually impossible without them thinking you are a devil and burning you for being anti Christian. You would need to be more subtle and probably work your way into the Church to be immune to their accusations. All other times you could probably just brandish a modern phone or something and everyone would believe you.

Heck I could make myself the richest person in the world via betting on stupid sports games and on lotteries that I know the results of in advance. Welcome to the past where worthless modern knowledge is priceless old knowledge.

Or you can stay inside the Panzer, close the hatches and pray that you don't run out of ammo.

And what we see today will never ever existed thanks to past modification.

Now that I like to see how one would do such thing, it's not a simple feat. It requires strategy and a base of operation. Also, we need to convince them to work that way so it makes things goes in our favor. Else it's nothing but hopeless, you might even loss your life in process.

And yeah, then everything will be pretty much FAR beyond our comprehension.
Anyway, you're right, time travel is VERY rigged due to one coming from the future already knows what's in the past. So they can toy with it and alter it.

As long as one's careful with your actions, one shouldn't provoke them in the first place. But if one do, if one can Time Travel, why not escape? If not, why don't one use one's Equipments and try to survive.

==================================
A Plus, Dollar might never be an International Money Value Comparison if Time Travel did happened.

Anyway, I'll choose either at year 1400/1500 or so when Europeans starts come to Indonesia and start their reign over us and stop them beforehand, so my country resources will not get sucked by them.
Then, afterwards I can show my children and grandchildren how awesome I was ^^

If I am stuck in the past, who cares about what a future I will never live to see again will be like. One would try and make a better future as one must admit our present is hardly as good as it could have been.

Unless you were dumped in the past completely naked (aka Atlantis style) then you would hardly have problem convincing any reasonable scientist that you are in fact from the future. Just show a modern day smart phone and watch as they awe at its capabilities. Especially with wars everyone would want you as you are the ultimate secret weapon, knowing things they could not possibly know as common knowledge.

You might now know how everything works in the present, but you know it does work which is something scientists of the past did not know. They could have developed semi-conductor transistors in the 1800s if someone told them that they do work instead of all the trial and error and millions of man hours of research wasted over many decades down options that did not end up viable like mechanical computers or valve transistor computers.

The Iron Man film had a good quote related to this.
Obadiah Stane: Here is the technology. I've asked you to simply make it smaller.
William Ginter Riva: All right, and that's what we're trying to do, but... honestly, it's impossible.
Obadiah Stane: [shouting] Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!
