You loose the capability of concentrating firepower. x)
And then, if you spread too much, your adversary can play the "denied flank" and screw you. x)
And then, again, DoW maps don't allow you to spread too much, meaning that a well placed Solar Pulse can force most of your squads to get back.

And, to make it clear (before you start saying that it can be easily countered) for the 3rd time at least, i'm NOT saying that one ability/unit (Solar Pulse in this case) can take out everything on its own.

Hoping that someone that reads this has DoW2...
The Techmarine can seriosly annihilate entire enemy squads with some help (Terminators with assault cannon work best but they cost a crapload of resources so Scouts with sniper rifles and Tacs with plasma are good enough):
- get the Consacrated Bolter: Brothers in Arms ability (increases nearby units firepower)
- get the Signum Armor: Target Marked ability (just like the Tau Pathfinders in DoW1)
- use the Target Marked on the enemy squad and the Brothers in Arms Ability, so you have a much weaker enemy unit against a much stronger firepower
- watch your enemies getting pwned.
