I liked Disciples quite a bit. I would love it to be remade. Making WC:3 though, an rts into a turned base type battle system will be a nice feat.

If I have to delete a message again, I will be giving out negative reputation. This is specially directed at you, Cyber. There is rarely a post by you that's not completely unnecessary babbling.

The Data Editor is complicated, indeed. Things that seem simple might take a while to get done. I, for one, was not particularly pleased when I went to the Effects tab and searched for the keywords «void ray».

You just did it *facepalm* :p

Thanks Rui, guys I'm going to say it for the MILLIONTH (probably literally) time, we have OUR OWN FORUM, please post general stuff there, this is for community feedback and/or important announcemnts, were all (myself included) using this as some kind of shoutbox.

It's not fair to expect Rui (or other hw staff) to clean up after us, neither should fans of the project have to dig through useless crap to find the interesting info.

Seconded.

Now I have somthing to say, more directed at grey.

I think were gonig to do things a bit edging towards your way, A more, perfect war3, rather than, an all new war4.

Not to say that there arent going to be plenty of new things, ESPECIALLY in the new races, and i am also going to do minor strategic changes, but otherwise, slightly more edging towards the direction you prefered earlier grey.

Really? So...we're not gonna do much new? Basically just Wc3 on the SCII Engine?

This project seems to get more and more saddening day by day. First only 2 races are going to be released, ok i guess. We're illinformed, and there has been this now. It's just going to be a more perfected WC3. Well, I'm still going to help however I can. I also have a question about heroes. Once we're ready to put heroes in, how are we deciding which ones will go in?

Sorry if it sounded that way.

Grey and I had a discussion in the chat about the path of the project.

Warcraft 3 totally reinvented the series, it was so totally different from 1 and 2, whereas 2 was a 'perfected' version of 1.

We want to improve upon warcraft 3, it was a wonderful game, but with some major flaws and sucky graphics.

We want to add new units, strategy, features, but we also want to prefect the core game, and instead of reinvent the series again, we want to prefect what is already very fun.

Thats not saying that we're not rly excited about all the changes we are making, and we arent just replicating wc3.

After toying with the data editor i've started to get much more skill with it, and will start trying to make some of the first units soon.

I'm yet to talk with sondre on how he is doing with our loading screen.

And i'd like Coal (Cyber) to do our UI, as close to the original as possible, no art imports yet, however.

HOWEVER, if none of you think we should take a less darastic path, then say so.

IT was grey's idea to make fewer changes, but i'm very open to the possibility of making alot more, this isnt my project guys, its OURS, we discuss changes and ideas, make progress as a team, and take responsiblity for our failure and sucsess AS a team.

Also, feel free to contact me, and everyone else on Skype at any time for a chat, if i'm logged on, chances are i am online.

Hi,
I've read some of the direction the project is heading, and while I felt some ideas are a bit weird, most of it, especially the hero ideas, is the best way a Warcraft IV-like project should take. I find the direction about heroes both innovative and cool. The gameplay will be much like sort of a mix between Warcraft 2 and 3 from what I understood.

I hope that made sense.

P.S : what I Felt it was weird :
- Ignoring wow lore is comprehensible as it's nothing like previous Warcraft lore (and has kinda ruined it) but to me if you want to start from an existing lore, you gotta take it all.
- I took a look on human and I felt the its tech-tree was too much based on wow-gnome ideas of steam tanks and all that stuff. The arachno-spider feels fun but don't feel like warcraft.
- Situational heroes are really great idea as I said. But limiting I feel that 3 heroes per race is not enough to me. It's good to alpha test the game though.
- Too many races. If you want a balanced multiplayer gameplay, I'd suggest making it a max of 3-4 races. To me you shouldn't hesitate on removing WC3 races (Night Elves and Undead). (As for the campaign, too many races will make your project really long)

Of course this is my humble point of view and it's only suggestions as I only got in here. I only felt to throw in thoses comments in here, I hope it's okay.

Yaos, if only we got more posts like yours.
This is the kind of detailed feedback we need, thankyou!

Yes, ignoring WoW lore was not one we took lightly, but it's well known that many war3 fans (who are our target consumer here) dislike WoW lore OR MMORPGs, it'd ruin it for more than a fair few people if they had to play WoW to get the gist of our story in war4, see what I mean?

As for the human techtree, the team actually agrees with you, TWIF wrote the techtree and he thinks it's too gnomish, so yeah, that's not staying like that for much longer =)

The debate for hero numbers is still ongoing, I like you think 5+ is the bare minimum, but this is not shared by the entire team, however a few more posts like this could prove it otherwise.

Too many races? Yes. We thought about that, originally we were going to do six and release them all at once! But we stopped and to ourselves. Let's be realistic. We don't want to be brushing this up in ten years from now, we want to get it to you as soon as is possible, without compromising quality.

An idea that Blizzard gave us, is to release it in parts, like the sc2 trilogy. However we took it one step further and said, why not split up the races to? That'd cut dev time considerably and give you something to play while you wait for more :)

Then we decided to drop to 5 races, 2, 2, 1 in release.

The key point being - we want to give you something fresh - but we don't want to steal an old favourite off anyone, again if people share your views and freely admit so, we'll most certainly re-evaluate our decision.

+rep, perfect, useful feedback. Thanks again!

Damn me... Grey propably won't even remember me anymore... hmm. I though I could voice act, but didn't have the time. Well, that is a shame for me... I wish I could get time to enter the project once again.

Well, onto the main thing. How is the project going right now overall? Do we have a terrain sample? Unit sample? Etc;

If this project go on, it will be great cause we will have lots of medieval units and projects like Diablo III (if the authors want to) can be recreated, as well as Lords of Europe, Castle Builder, and any type of Medieval maps.

Perfect example of a good, constructive post with excellent feedback.

TWIF and Grey, please continue with your current goal for the project. Starcraft 2 was simple; it kept what was good about Starcraft 1 and added more. The game turned out great for the true fans.

If you do the same with your project, you will please the majority.

Of course I do, you me and pangahas, G&E. Good times. =)

@ King - Yeah, great minds think alike, that really is some of the best feedback I've seen since this project started.

That's the idea behind it to, keep it like war3 and war3 fans are more likely to actually.. well like it. lol
Reinvent it and you risk alienating too many.

Thats the point that i've been trying to get across.

Yaos, Grey practically said it all.

The human techtree i designed was based upon a previous (and now unused) design philosophy, our new one will be less 'steampunk' and more 'warcraftish'

We have several terrained maps completely done, and i am still studying the data editor, we have a UI and a lobby being coded, and our techtrees should be (and could be) done for alpha this afternoon, or whenever we can get a meeting together.

I can be the Loremaster I hve roleplayed a lot on WoW and I was alweys the storyteller and I told storys of the shaping of Azeroth, the curoption of the emerald dreams, the creation of the dragon soul, the war of the ancient, the old gods are just some of the examples.
So to make a long story short i know alot about warcrafts lore and many characters. Orcs, Humans, Dragons, ogres, trolls, dwarfs, titans and so on.

Well I can use a grammar helping program. Just 1 known example as Google earth. But grammar is not my best subject. But if it's ok i would like to be your loremaster.

And to answer wherwolfs question a WarCraft loremaster is a person who is a master of the story of warcraft all from the shaping of azeroth to the new age.

Acually, our stance on Wow lore is rather negative, as we are ignoring it, instead taking off from the end of wc3, and all the lore explained in the game, and only the game.

But if you can summarize the events leading up to the fall of mount hyjal (I use Turnitin to detect plaugaurisim. (spelt it wrong)

I will give u a shot.

However, Google Earth is NOT a Spell-Check program.

To be blunt lowe257, your 'application' doesn't do you much justice.
Your applying for a writing position, you have lots of spelling mistakes and your saying Google Earth is a spell-checking program?

Not a good first impression by any stretch of the imagination.

However if it means that much to you, feel free to write up a better application and show some examples of your written work. Without that, I'm sorry to say your not getting my vote.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to upset you. I understand maybe English isn't your first language and/or generally not a strong point, but neither am I going to beat around the bush. You need to brush up on your grammar and spelling (which are actually two very different things) before were likely to even consider taking you on.

What I know:

-> Pangahas is going to draw a "new" spiced up Grunt concept.
-> Turminator was/is going to talk to M0rbid about background art for sites/loading screens.

-> Stathis quickly claimed he was working on the engine yesterday, is this so? I'm not bothered, I was just unaware... I like to keep track of what's going on.

-> LostTurbine says he has more to share with us, he'll be posting it on worldcraft, sometime soon I presume. =)

In my eternal wisdom, I will soon be donating some orcish units. The only thing that bugs me is that if Twif maintains that he "fired me" and I didn't quit, then I might not be so willing to donate these. However, I will be doing these and the recognition is optional. I will pastebin them when I have finished. The units will be the Orcish Grunt, some upgrades, and other stuff, see if you like them, change them if you do not.

I will be doing this frequently, as it will help the project along, I do not wish it to die because of my hand, I hope you enjoy your gift. I bid you all adeu.

~laertes

I Don't care to argue details as it doesent matter, I appreciate this offer of assistance. I only wish you cared to do this as an official member of the team, instead of leaving (or being fired, it doesen't matter) First, and then doing them.

But like i said, it doesent matter, We all appreciate the donation of your time and effort.

On the matter of pointless positions, I missed WT's Post, And yeh, We dont need more people, we just need to do what we can with who we have.
