About W.A.R


W.A.R. is a 3v3 skirmish/tech war style map that features:


  • -Unique forest terrain.
  • -Customized armor and damage for more strategic warfare.
  • -Specialized units that have weaknesses and strengths against other units.
  • -Team oriented; work together to adapt to your enemy or lose together.
  • -Units spawn in squads for fast paced, explosive gameplay.

This map is not protected, with that being said, I would like permission before editing/redistributing this map.
Map was created with the UTM 3.0, thus the larger file size. I will remove un-needed models in a future version.
Feedback appreciated.
Also a quick note, this map may be laggy for older computers due to the number of units in it which I did try to limit.

"W.A.R" is a Risk/AoS hybrid type of map where you build structures that trains AI-controlled units charging against your enemy base.

"Game is really good no much bugs going and no leaks encountered, although the Engineer needs more hp and armor since they are also useful in observing the battlefield and such."

you have tons of imported material and you dont give proper credit!!!

Credit's are in the trigger section of the map and it's the UTM 3.0. I did not add anything else other than what's already in the UTM?

(which I stated in the "credits" section of my map description and also in the additional info.)
 
This is a really cool idea. I like how it feels nothing like warcraft, don't get me wrong I love Wc3, but this felt like Atari or NES. I like the concept, I would have the builder have some bomb ability but hey that's just me. Terrain is beautiful. I did not like the standard game icons and models, it took away from the effect. Gampley 5/5, terrain 5/5, else 2/5. Custom sounds, models, UI and icons and this would be mind-blowing! Also, no reason not to go 3rd person cam on this... just a thought.

Problem with adding a bombing ability to the Engineer is the way he switches from defensive to offensive. Right now it's done with a trigger so ability cooldown wouldn't be shared. If I added one I'm not sure if I'd want a one time kind of ability or just something to help with a small defensive push.

Either way, I can fix the shared ability cooldown by making it Bear Form ability instead of using a trigger to switch.

Wow, that was a very responsive reply. Bearform would work but bomb could be an item too with only 1 charge. Or how ever you like. One thing I remembered to is that build times were pretty slow. This detracted from the game because it felt like not much was happening.

I like the camera, but I would trigger it with a spell, and maybe the camera Icon for the missing slot in the Chopper's ability menu box. I would also use the trigger

    • Periodic - Every .05 seconds of game time
  • Conditions
  • Actions
    • Camera - pan camera to Helicopter

I just remembered. This is the game it reminded me of...
a true classic. Of course Chopper Command spawned an entire progeny of chopper games.

Custom sounds would be great too. What I found so amazing about this game W.A.R. is that the feel was so unique, its a helicopter building structures that spawn troops of all different types and the battlefield looks nothing like Wc3, but instead looks like real grasslands/forest. I think you are really onto something here!

I am very impressed! This is going to a great game. Nice preview screen by the way. I was thinking of making a jet pack game or a dragon dogfight type of game but I gave up, thinking it was too hard, but you have inspired me to go for it.

Didn't have time to make all the defensive structure icons; however I do have everything needed to make them. Should just take me an hour or two when I get time.


Next Version V0.2b:
Unit upgrades - that will transfer with the units as they spawn and go to the computer controlled player.
A controllable Hero (that you can switch cameras to and from your engineer) will also be added.
A -specialist- barracks will also be added; will contain commandos', medics and anything else I decide will be specialists.
The Bio Marine, Spawnlings will also be classified as specialists.
The rest of the Icons will be added (defensive structures)
Bombardment ability (Defensive Engineer only) to help from getting over-run and give your offense a small push.


I also hope in the next "big" version (so v0.3) to add Custom AI to the game; shouldn't be that hard...like playing rock, paper, scissors against yourself.

Don't worry, I myself have a ton of projects halfway finished for various reasons; this is one I just decided to work on one day and here it is now.

When you say second menu buildings can't be built what do you mean? Like none at all or just a few because a few wont be released until next version?

In the second build menu, none of the buildings can be built. The Engineer Training doesn't turn into an Engineer.

Strange, I've never ran into that problem. You sure when you use the ability your going back into the Build menu (B)?

If you wouldn't mind, send me a screenshot or replay so I can look into that.

Edit* I see the bugs with the Engineer now. The respawn is currently not working and for some reason the bear form ability isn't allowing the Defensive Engineer to build structures. I've got a fix for both issues already and will upload shortly.

This is a great map 5/5 all day long!

Thank's very much. Your suggestions helped it evolve tremendously.
I'll probably release a new version sometime in the next few days since I have a 4 day weekend.

-Finally will add unit upgrades
-Camera Lock and Unlock for people that wan't a more expanded game view
-Probably a few more custom Icons.
-Small chance I add the Controllable "Hero"

Nothing huge but a little more content.
