WoW models should be removed or at least limited (by size...?) IMO. they are high-poly, huge-sized and, hell, some of them are just dumped here as "omg look at me, i extracted a model from wow, i am so smart, credit me for the extra hard 5 minutes this took". there is a tutorial about extracting them somewhere on these forums so the people that have WoW can extract them. as for the others...well using those models would kind of be illegal for them anyway unless they own the game.

All this bedlam and arguing. The site's on the edge of the grave. We're about to the point were we either take the plunge, or rise from the ashes.

If the site survives the delima, we should review all of the rules and regulations about uploading to the site...perhaps a maxium amount of space to which each person could download to each category?Like, for example, 11 MB for maps, 20 MB for Models, 5 MB for icons, and 6 MBs fir skins per user. And there can be any number of tools and JAZZ allowed, only after they are teted to make sure they are working properly.

Just an idea

you mean upload, not download:)
But it seems to me it is not matter of space or something technical, but matter of money witch provider want and site owner can not (or do not wish) pay. And if is situation such...stagnant and none admin bother to say whats going on, who will invest to such unsure thing?

What do you mean illegal to use WoW models? They're made by Blizzard. And if they are illegal to use, then they're illegal for everyone.

This site had convinced me of map making since that time where wc3sear was realated with wc3campaigns. I do regret if this site is dead.

Supposedly i think we REALLY need to restart this site from the beginning. Downloading how much we are over the quota would just make ppl wait longer.

I do think; Darky, that setting up a new web or watever and putting a rather more strict rule to maps would be better. Maybe link all the tools which are posted in wc3campaigns probably? wc3campaigns have more updated tools and we have the unupdated versions.

Usually Id rather hang around in wc3sear than wc3camapgins but now its the opposite.

Sad Story eh, seeing a great modding site going down.

It would also maybe be better that we get more news. Currently we are just having these 'negative' thoughts meanwhile it isn't nessessary at last.
So any MODERATOR that knows something MORE?

did anyone already get that "purge/restart" and other stuff will NOT help anything?
Provider blocked uploads and until he gets what he want (more money) it will be disabled. This web has great traffic, disc space and generaly consumes lot of all server performance. Even if we delete everything, it doesnt mean that provider will turn it on.
From providers sigth it is only troublemaking site wich generates small (yes, it is relative) income for it.

Well, for the first we need more webspace if we want to prevent this site from dying. To get some, we have to know
- how much additional webspace is probably needed for the next year
- how much traffic may be probably.
Without knowing these things, people simply are not able to help fast and efficient, so please someone who knows it - post it, finally!

To get rid of these bad quality ressources in the future, but on the other hand still offer more or less beginners to look at their comments and learn from it, I suggest a script that adds something like a life timer to all new submissions.
When this timer expires (e.g. after 10 days), the ressource will be automatically deleted. Any moderator can disable the timer, if he thinks the map is worth to remain in the database for longer.
To prevent that some ressources are checked by many moderators and some by none, there could be a little flag only viewable for mods, that shows wether a ressource has been checked or not.

This was just my little try to help...

Alright, just got done reading all 8 pages and I think I have some alright ideas. One problem people seem to be having is losing good files. Maybe we could shut the site down for awhile and let the moderators go through and decide which files will be kept and which files will be ditched. This would take awhile so we would just have to wait knowing that it's for the greater good. Then, to slow down a repeat of this fiasco, resources will require approval before entering the site to be downloaded. Moderators should be able to choose which files are to be deleted regardless of the rules (not that there shouldn't be rules) and people who care about this site shouldn't complain. I don't know how possible this is 'cause I don't know how managing a website works, but if it is possible it seems like a pretty good idea to me.[/b]

I say that after the site comes back to life we should take the rating thing more seriously... right now we just kinda say "AWESOME 5/5!!!11" or "U SUK! 0/5!!" in the chat board, darky should make an actual voting thingy with buttens and everything so if it gets bad ratings it actually goes away!. That would get rid of the problem of crappy recources. Also, in the models section, I've noticed a lot of models with over the limit of 3000 polys (or whatever it was), it already finds the poly count, and if it deleted it if it was over the limit that would be good. Then it could all be done by the computer, and the 22570 users of the site instead of the 10 mods.

Well, i mean this site keeps alot of skilled people in different areas, I ve never seen an site wich is as good. Some icons / models / spells / jass / tools or w/e
may not be that good - but still even then, there are people wich use it, because they like it and need it - so i think deleting something is not the way to go. I hope this site will stay alive IMHO it's one of the best sites!

How long is it when someone from...staff...wrote some news?
There is siply nothing new because nobody cares. Nobody reads your (u*****s) ideas and nobody doing anything for keep this site going. Only thing we can do is download all good resources befor this domain expires or porvider shut this site down for good.
(annoying, isnt it?)

what exactly you mean?
I mean that I think if it is possible to write a script that creates ZIP packages of all uploads, it should also be possible to write one that streams all saved ZIPs after one command to a user.
Well I have to admit that I don't know the possibilities of JavaScript&Co really...

Anyways, it doesn't make sense for other than backup reasons and it's not a user's job to make backups of a website.

Well you cant zip a zip... but if you could it would take a few hours for the stuff on the site... And I know that it takes about 4.5 hours to download about 419 mb with comcast... so it would probably take at least 11 hours to zip it and dl it.
