Unit attacks

I have a question. In Warhammer 40K units have their melee and ranged attack so when a unit is attacked in melee combat it fights with melee weapon, and when attacked in ranged combat they use ranged weapons. Can this be made in Warcraft too? :?: :?: :?:

it will be alittle harder in a non turn-based game, cuz melee and ranged units can attack at the same time. but anyway, i think u cant check if its attacked by melee or ranged anyway, except by letting it detect when its attacked by unit types with a ranged attack (if its attacked by a '.....' or a '.....' or... etc, then order atacked unit to nightelf demonhunter - metamorphosis (give the unit an metamorphosis based ability so it transforms into a ranged unit
