Is there any way to create a 1024*512 pixel terrain tile and display it ingame?
It is working for tiles without variations (512*512) but the large ones are either not displayed correctly if you deactivate mipmaps or with mipmaps only the 512*256 version is displayed.
Would I need to hack wc3?

Okay, the solution is easy:
Simply use .tga files instead of .blp. (Names remain the same, for example TerrainArt\LordaeronSummer\Lords_Dirt.tga)
This means .tga terrain textures can have a size 1024*512, 2048*1024 and maybe even more.
This seems to work for some Replaceable textures aswell, but not for normal model textures because they specify the texture directly as .blp.
