I read somewhere that making maps in the latest patch makes said map incompatible with nearly all previous versions of the game.

I have 1.26.0.6401, which i belive is 1.26a, and i have some maps all the way from 1.21 that work on it, others made for 1.27 also work, so it seems to be a highly compatible version, but that's just me, and i'm a bit out of touch with the community these days.

Should i use latest reforged? 1.30? 1.26? i even have a clean install of ROC 1.0 lol, for, reasons..

As someone who won't upgrade past 1.28 because it means downloading and installing 20 GB of useless files, I sadly can't play any map made on more recent versions. On the other hand players who use more recent patches can play my campaign. Unfortunately you can't run 2 versions of worldedit on one computer (or at least I can't).

So if you don't need the new features I would stay on a version before 1.29. Unless you want to use reforged graphics of course ^^

But nowadays most new projects seem to be made/remade on newer versions so...

Haha, a man after my own heart.

If you have this many versions, aren't you already probably one of the most well-equipped users to answer your own question?

Your use of the numbers here is not correct. Patch 1.29, 1.30 and 1.31 are all about 1 or 2 GB in size and definitely do not functionally support the reforged graphics. I am guessing, by your description, that you meant to refer to Patch 1.32.

However, the patches 1.29, 1.30 and 1.31 were made by the Reforged team (just like patch 1.28) so you could consider them to be the work of the same people. But they definitely don't have Reforged graphics, and they definitely are not 30 GB in size. Maybe you downloaded them and then accidentally allowed them to upgrade to patch 1.32. They have code inside them to delete themselves called "Warcraft III Launcher", so to use them you have to always use "Warcraft III" instead, which is not the Battlenet but is actually the working game.

I really like the 1.31 version. It has many bells and whistles such as changable mana-costs, cooldowns, damage on abilities etc. as well as customizable frames. The down-sides include you cannot download maps over LAN, load/save in multiplayer does not work at all and if you have many leaks, it takes time to load post-game-screeen (stats etc.) where only a black-screen is "shown".
Ohh, and most importantly, it does not include the reforged graphics, menu or feature-removals that I've noticed (except for the ones I mentioned).
I have not played any significant amount of single player, so could be details that I've missed.

Thanks everyone, i decided i'll keep installs of both 1.26 and 1.31, seems to be the best approach without getting too specific and having 5+ versions of the game

6106 - 1.32.2 (1.32.2.14722)
Source for above. As you can see, everything 1.24 up to 1.28.5 used the same WorldEditor version. You're free to jump between them :)
1.29 introduced 24-player mode etc. If you stick to <1.28, it's still technically possible to support 12/24p in a hybrid approach (a tool will be released sometime later).
I think the majority of the English community moved to Reforged and the older versions mostly remain popular in other communities. And yet, old WC3 will remain the choice for LAN parties for obvious reasons.
