Oh - hey Doctor-pepper Didn't see your post there XD Nah, it's going to be a riddle based campaign-y map, where you play as a roach - you know, they can burrow, and move while they burrow if they get the upgrade. It's going to get upgraded with cool abilities along the way, as it is sent on a mission from a cerebrate, or sum'thin.

Kinda off-topic, don't you feel so?

Oh, I missed those posts. I don't know about that, I hope Pepper have it.

Were you going to do anything else than story writing? If not, we should atleast invite you to the team if the story is good.

I wasn't a part of the 'kicking you' decision. I think Pepper was a little impatient. The Editor wont be out for atleast 2 months from now and you were having computer problems, right?

So the rumors were true,
your ARE alive!
Its kewl, but dont do that when we are working on the real project, though.
I mean, you write WorldPress on the frontpage of our website, tell us ull finnish it 2morrow, and off you go :)
I'll upload more info about the jobs and the gameplay by the end of the week.

Hero_Lief, ive readded you to google docs last week, but you have to admit, 20 days for a simple story submission is way past the deadline

Okay, understood, didn't know you readded me.
Hey, I've got a tidbit of info?
I'm in the BETA. So I can get us an editor ASAP.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm having trouble, but I know how to fix it.
Can you share the folders with me using the share option?

Hehe, yeah sorry. But when the editor is out, you won't have to worry about that. 'Cause I won't be wanting to leave the computer for atleast half a year. ^^

Also, Hero_lief - Since you're having these problems with the docs sharing, I invited you again. Try and see if it works now.

Yeah, I did graphical design, triggering, and terraining too.
I'll get around to doing triggering as soon as I can get the WE working in Ubuntu.
I already have the graphical image though and I'll get that uploaded sooner or later. Gotta find it. It's SOMEWHERE on my 500GB hard drive... (which is almost full)

EDIT: No, Tylon, I actually need you to share the folders with me. It's not letting me do it any other way for some reason?
EDIT2: Ahah, it's working now. Added the story, finding that damned image...

Isn't that a little ridiculous to have an extremely short deadline on a game that isn't even out yet?
Y'all have at least 2 solid months of being able to plan (if not more).

Anywho, I loved LoaP (not ALL of the crazy editions, but the idea of it), so I'm excited for the map.

Glad to hear you're excited for the map. =)

But you are right, it would be a little ridiculous having a short deadline for a game that isn't out yet. But it's not about that. This was a qualification test, and it isn't very helpful having a story writer that takes a month to write a short story, right?

Now, Hero_Lief had problems with his computer. But he has sended in a short story, and have passed that test. So this is not directed to you in any way, Hero_Lief. ;)

Yes, we are just filtering bad apples. When the project starts, and we need a minimap image, or a specific trigger, we cant wait few weeks until someone has free time to work on it. The deadline would be probably few hours later.
It's not cool to let an entire team wait because you have to visit you grandmother and play xbox for 6 days.

Well, I can see that you already have a bunch of storywriters working in the project, but I still would like to join the team as a writer for later projects, or for this one helping the main writers and covering their absences. That doesn't mean that I'd still like to be one of the main writers, but too much people working in the same story can be troublesome.
Anyway, I readed that first I have to pass a writing test, so I'm expecting your response.

This is an exception since I'll normally be able to write only in weekends, but here it goes.

Today in The City's** Story Channel we'll take a look at the life of one of our most famous but also feared and hated citizens: Ronald Stainmann.
Twin brother of the eminent doctor Jin Stainmann and son of an european father and an asian mother, Ronald proved soon that he was as smart as his brother but, while Jin was an applied student, Ronald hated school and the institute and got arrested various times for minor crimes and offenses. By the time young Ronald was seventeen, his police record occupied half of a police archive's hard drive. After an unsuccesful hacking attempt to the police archive's main frame, Ronald was sent to the most terrible reformatory institution of the country.
It's supposed that in that time he met the men that later would become his henchmen and drug dealers. Eminent psychologist Edward Irving, principal of the institution in that time, thinks that “surely it was during his stay in the reformatory that he learned how to use charisma, fear and subterfuge as tools to manipulate others, maybe from one of his companions”. Dr. Irving also says that his impression of Ronald's evolution in the institution was “a little cunning, mischievous child becoming a silent, cunning troublemaker, but also a great manipulator of weaker minds”.
Two years after his entrance in the reformatory, Dr. Irving decided that Ronald Stainmann was ready to return to the civilization, but kept him under psychological treatment. By that time, his brother Jin had already a degree in nuclear physics and was studying chemistry. Delighted by Ronald's initiative, his fathers agreed to pay him his universitary studies.
While Ronald was studying medicine, he created a drug dealing ring in the campus using his manipulation skills and his knowledge of pharmaceutics. Is also thought that his brother Jin helped him briefly in those years, but there are no proofs, and soon after that the brothers stopped talking to each other. Soon, Ronald started to have probles with the local drug lords, so he contracted old friends as henchmen and soon expanded his business while following his own studies. When he was twenty four, he was doctor in medicine and specialist pharmaceutic, doctor in infomathematics* and nano-robotics engineer*, and one of the major drug lords of the city, with his territory occupiying one third of the city, including half of the suburbs.
In the years later, Ronald founded Northstar Pharmaceutical and married Sandra Eastfield, a famous actress and adopted daughter of our city. Seven years later, Ronald's parents and his only son died in a plane crash caused by one of Ronald's enemies while he survived. After that, Ronald became a hermit, always shut away in his mansion or in Northstar's office, rejecting even to assist to his own brother's weeding with Samus Allen, chairwoman of Cloverfield Food Industries. But that was only the surface. In the underground world he became a vengeful and hateful tyrant. He stopped worrying about subtlety and stealth, ordering the public execution of his enemies. After a true war in the suburbs where civilians, policemen and henchmen died for dozens, Ronald's gang ended up controlling the whole drug dealing business under the local mafia's supervision.
But Ronald's victory came with a price. Too much smoke made obvious where the fire was, and the police started investigating Northstar Pharmaceutical. Ronald's wife, unable tu endure all the emotional pressure of their children's death, her husband's abandonment, the death of her career as an actress and now the suspicion of Ronald being a drug lord, wich she never belived before, driven herself to a suicide attempt. Ronald sent his wife to a pshychiatric centre while he himself crashed his car into a gas station.
The police records counts Ronald Stainmann as “dead in a car accidet with no corpse left to find”, but for two years, even through Northstar Pharmaceutical was led to bankruptcy and the title of “the city's drug lord” is supposed to be unoccupied, the underground drug business has continued being stable, as if someone is still controlling it. Some people think that Ronald's death was a fake and he's still the city's drug lord in the shadows, others think that Jin Stainmann had no brother at all and he used money and his knowledge to create an illusion to distract his enemies while he can manage both the drug dealing business in the underground and the city's food processing industry on the surface. Whatever is the truth, only the most faithful and important members of Ronald's gang know it.

*Futuristic careers invented by me. The first one would be more math-focused informatic studies, with applications into the quantum computer invetigation branch. The second one is obviously focused in design, creation and programation of nanomachines, wich can be used as a drug or to increase the effects of other drugs.
**As I don't know how the city is called, I'm calling it “The City”, wich isn't a bad name... you know... for a city.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Characters:
Ronald Stainmann – Theoretical Drug Lord of The City. Very hard to meet unless you're a high-ranked drug dealer. Brother of Jin Stainmann or maybe just his alter-ego.
Jin Stainmann – Famous scientist of The City, works in Cloverfield Food Industries as leader of the scientific development department and he's married to the chairwoman of said company. Brother of Ronald Stainmann or maybe just his alter-ego.
Samus Allen – Chairwoman of Cloverfield Food Industries, one of the major companies of the country. Allen's company controls most of the farms in the nation as is responsible of the alimentation of every and all of The City's citizens.
Sandra Eastfield – Formerly a famous actress of The City, now a psychologically unestable woman with suicide tendences.
The story, characters, events and places are open to discussion by the team, as always.
Btw, I already have some experience writing stories for a modding project.

Now THAT'S what I call a story!

Congratulations, you are now a part of the crew. Login to google docs with your google account. I haven't talked to Pepper about this, but hell, I won't miss this opportunity. ^^

Also, we don't have a bunch of storywriters. Actually, we just have one except Pepper.

Sure, in about like a year or something

Tharkas, yeah, what can i say, gj. Lets see if you can also be active in the long run

Active I will be, but mostly only Saturday and Sunday (In a few weeks I'll start working). I'll check the Request Sheet periodically, waiting for your story requests.

I'd like to be a part of the team as a storywriter. And maybe triggers, don't know how good I am in comparison to everyone else :)

I have galaxy, but haven't properly used it yet, just played around a bit with it. I could do triggering and terraining, but I have no clue if I'm any good. Ill work on a little example. As for activity, I'm online almost every day for several hours.

Alright, make a simple 100x100 map, with a river in the middel. 5 starting points for 5 different players, at initialization each player will receive a random building . Every 3 seconds of the gametime, if the building is alive, spawn a marine next to each building.
If you can do that, u are in. Shouldnt be that difficult

(I hope its clear that you have to use "for each" function, and not manually spawn units for each player)

That won't help. Note the fact of the matter being WARCRAFT 3 ONLY. StarCraft II handles everything differently, and Blizzard is already doing something about this kind of thing. Like, implementing it.

Erm, I haven't really committed myself to reading the entire thread, but...

How many story writers are there currently? Is there room for more?

I have lent my writing skills to numerous Hive projects, and also came third place in Short Story Contest #3.
