Oversized Maps

Starting today wc3sear.ch will no longer be accepting oversized maps or maps that otherwise cannot be submitted via the standard upload feature. The reason for this is that we simply do not have the database support needed to get these maps uploaded in a timely manner. Never again will I have mappers waiting 4+ months just to get their works put up, so I am dropping that service altogher...or at least until further notice.

how big in filesize do they have to be before they are "oversized"?

Usually 4 megs, although I've seen users upload maps as big as 7 megs before without a problem.

Well maybe its time to "purge" the maps section? Ive seen some maps that really arent worth having up that only haves about 1-2 downloads while looking around the diferent sections for something fun to play

But then again thats alot of time spend for only remove something like 30-40 maps so maybe not that good idea again...

Is this only for oversized maps or for oversized campaigns as well?

Anything thats too big to upload with the conventional upload feature. That includes campaigns.

If you are looking for a aplace that will host maps of immense file size, try http://warcraft3.filefront.com/ That is the last WC3 site on the Web that I know of that still has an active admin to post oversize maps.

Campaigns me not be over 4 mb?! but my campaign im making already is 8 mb, cuz of the songs I import. There are even campaigns on this site that are far over 50 mb.

PS: I still got 2 questions, but U dont answer to that topic anymore:1) my map with 5800 errors. U said maybe the import manager is empty, but its not. So what is it then? and 2) I still want 2 change my acc name

Kinda sad but reasonable. Hmm, my campaign won't be finished in a year anyway. Just sad for other users cause most times campaigns are of higher quality then most other maps.

*argh* Not good.
Mostly these bigger things have also a bigger quality, so this is really a loss.
There only remains the possibility to post dummy maps/campaigns.
My campaign also has about 10 MB, without any custom music. Maybe I'll compose some for the cinematics in it, in this case it'll become even much bigger...

Someone who knows Darky in person should get him back on this site. After all, he is the one that made it so good, and since he left the site is getting poplulated with low-standard stuff, and it is no where near as good as it was when I join. Since I had done a lot of research about Warcraft 3 stuff collecting help so I could get my maps to be good, when this site was still pretty small and if you asked a question you probably would get a answer within a day. I used to go through the unanswered topics posting where I could help about what people were asking about. I left this site a little while after Cookie (some of you older fans of the site might know him/her, Cookie was a very good model maker,) left because I too felt that the site was falling apart. The only reason I started visiting the site again was I put my open RPG on it and I am hopful it might someday get how good it used to be. I really hope that someday there will be people willing to look through the download sections of this site and start deleting all the usless maps that no one ever uses, or at least like there is in the skins section, a 'please delete this' button.
