A map based on Mad Balls Arena. I made it for a comp on our local server. The idea of the map is to pickup items known as orbs and throw them at enemies. These orbs make use of custom coded physics and return to item form after dealing damage or coming to a stop.

Special Thanks to CraZy.FroG for both his ideas and since this map is based on his map Mad Balls Arena.


Features



AI
Orb Craft contains AI to test your skills.

Orb Based Combat
Fight in a team by throwing orbs at one another. Orb Craft currently contains 10 different orb: Acid, Arcana, Blood, Darkness, Fire, Force, Frost, Holy, Lightning, Void and Water each with its own effects, mass and friction. There is now also 7 recipe orbs (Clockwork, Glaive, Winter, Phoenix, Nature, Rune and Toxic)

Spells
Orb Craft also contains a selection of spells that uses the physics engine in the map. It currently has 22 spells.

Heroes
You can now select an hero as well, each with its own play style.

Large Selection of Items
Orb Craft currently has 10 permanent items and 10 charged items.

Fast Action
My goal with Orb Craft has always been to make it a fast game and I intend to keep it that way, by making it a key crunching race to the orbs with dodge and throw style combat. The spells only serve as a change of pace.

Various Game modes
Orb Craft currently has 4 games modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Harbinger (bring the Orb of Destruction to the enemy base to score a point) and King of the Hill (Gain points while standing on a elevated area.

Its okay but I don't even have enough recipe orb models...nevermind models for every hero...that's 4 extra :p

I have received both very negative and positive feedback for adding heroes to the map? What is your opinions? Does the heroes promote a more fun gameplay or does it spoil the gameplay?

IMO, addind more heroes defies the very idea of the map, just have two teams with different models no classes and all that junk, FFS the idea is to throw orbs, not team hero arena!!!!!!!

(same goes for spells)

Bottom line is there is thousands of maps out there doing just that : Throw Orbs or whatever....Why not make a game that is actually unique and fun....which is why people play a map more than once.

My opinion on ^^: all the spells and items, for me, takes the fun out of the game. Instead of being a nice, fun MINI-game, it becomes an intricate, complicated map where you need to know item/spell/orb combinations in order to play against more frequent players of this map.

And then including heroes, each with it's own set of abilities, different attributes, adds even more combinations to the game. Now, you have to take in consideration each hero, his/her items, spells and orbs.

(On a side note: what does an archer do in a orb throwing map shooting arrows?)

Bottom line is there is thousands of maps out there doing just that : Throw Orbs or whatever....Why not make a game that is actually unique and fun....

The unique has no problems whatsoever, it's the fun factor that's bothering me. IMO, it's not much fun when it's basicly a hero arena with a few added features to make it more "unique" than other maps of the same kind.

These said features can also hamper gameplay, as with buying items and spells you need more than 30sec to read and find the good items and spells, and most likely, you will need more than 1 game to find combinations that work well together.

which is why people play a map more than once.

Or not at all. It's fine to make it different, just don't make it hard on people who want to play it for fun, not competitively.

Just by the way...I'm doubting if you actually played it...since if you did you would know that heroes only differ in their single bonus ability not sets....

You would also know that only their attribute gains differ not their attributes by itself which still allows a lot of versatility.

Use your imagination. She can shoot arrows and throw orbs? Or even shoot orbs? Its warcraft...

Also you have already stated that every feature I ever added is bad...so please when you have constructive comments they would be appreciated...but as you said to me via chat you don't give a dam about my orb arena map...don't give the appearance that you do care about it on forums.

Most people catch it almost immediately and start constructing their builds as soon as possible.

I was in an important game and you wouldn't stop bugging me...

also, even though some people catch the items and ability stuff, there are loads that just throw orbs, and never buy items or abilities.

anyway, new idea:

When it explodes, you teleport to the orb's location (where it exploded)

I have no idea what to update on chaos either....The problem with chaos is there is just too many systems....and somewhere there is some mayor problem causing some mayor leak of somekind and I have no idea where it might be.....

NEW UPDATE SEE CHANGELOG!!!!

I remade the harbinger map. It still needs some finishing touches with terraining, but the other harbinger map was just a mess....the newer map should be a lot better.

Also checkout the new hero. The spirit with the ability to swap positions.....

Edit : Some testing revealed that the Swap's hotkey is broken...Soz guys I'll fix it as soon as possible

Hey , I think the orb of arcana it too .....you know , if they have 2 orb then I can't do anything .I think you should fix the time turn into sheep a little shorter or else.My friend and everybody join the game only buy that orb , you know, then I think:" Where is the other orb?".

Suggestion:
I think you should use this icon as DISBTN to orb of Force (in attached: little preview and .blp file)

Orb Craft is very good map. There are no bugs/errors/etc. The gameplay is good. It can keep you in fun for long minutes. Overall I vote this map 4/5 and vote for approval.

Note:

Some bugs that MIGHT happen when you play:

There is however a bug which cause you to sometimes die at the end of timeout. Which happened to me in my last game once. I haven't been able to replicate it though. Another rare bug was one which prevented blizzard from the wizzard from working. This also happened only once and I haven't been able to replicate it nor have I an idea what could cause it. Finally, at the end of the game if people are revived they ain't paused (which is quite mayor so I'll work on this)

That's pretty much all the bugs I found and then the hotkey of Swap not working.

1.I'm glad I could help .I think with the idea of the map ,the more orbs to throw in this game,the more fun playing it .

2.I think maybe you create "orbs of element"(I can't suggest its affect right now) by add up 6 element orbs link fire , water , earth (I suggest It effect like earthquake skill ), Nature (I suggest it seffect is "bind" an enemy ),Lighting,Basic (I think you should have this orb , having a basic orb which only a little damage , no effect,but needed to make many another interested orbs is a good idea).With only 6 inventory slot, it's promised to be a strongest orbs .And I suggest more orbs will come with the next version :D.

3.Then , you know , when the game with too many orb ,I think with just only 6 slot of inventory is , you know , people have to choose item or orbs .Then I suggest you use the item (robe , staff ,skill) , by clicking on the item it become your skill , you can unlearn by a tomb , but no item return , then people just have to choose the item or skill wisely and concentrate about ORBS.I think an item block a spell with a long countdown is also good.

4.I know with too many orb , you can't spawn all of them on the map , then maybe , you know , only basic orbs(not orb of Basic , I leave its name to you :D) spawn , then player must focus about conbined orbs to win.

That is my idea for this map now , maybe it's not concern in your idea about this map , but I like this map , and I think , you know , that I could help with my idea above.

i like his idea of combining orbs to make better ones. but it would be quite irritating if you have one orb in your inventory and you pick up another orb you want to throw to get a kill or get out of trouble and the orbs meld to make another one.

perhaps each hero/mage should have a melding ability, which combines the orbs in, say, the top two inventory slots. just an idea >.<

and like you said, it's very noob-unfriendly. might work, but rather as an extra mode or arena type, not as a universal thingy.

I found a problem here

This occur when a match finishes without a score .Then whenever a match finishes(time out , scoring) ,a new castle appears .Then , you know , nobody can destroy enemy base .

I suggest random event .You know, it likes a random bombard , double damage or half damage, slow unit , silence for some second ,anything you like.It makes a battle crazier than ever before.:D

I found a little problem .I don't know why but I notice that when I fool around in shop area by use the spell "throw orb" or "use spell" , the moment I enter the arena , my hero........die :eek:

My next update is kind of delayed thanks to me taking part in a map making comp on our local server....So have patience....It is kinda strange that your hero dies when using throw orb....(I'll try to replicate it:wink:)...and hopefully fix it...:thumbs_up:
