Farming Simulation Beta

attachment.php

What is FSB?
FSB is a simulation game where the players play the role of farmers in a town. They can grow and produce crops, livestock, and other raw resources for processing in the town. The town will have many fully built and functional buildings which you can enter and exit (and which may have multiple-floors if we get a good multi-floor system working) where players can interact with townsfolk in various ways. There will be multiple game play modes which the players can do to keep the game interesting and fresh even when you’ve played it several times before. By default, the players are divided into two farming companies competing to make more money and to cause the other team to go out of business.

More about the town.
The town will include warehouses, retail stores, a hospital and police station, a meat processing plant, a canning factory, a paper mill, some homes, a library (will serve as an information centre for n00bs), some other factories, conservation area (with forests and wild animals), a bank, a gas station, a guns store, and will have telephones so you can order stuff that the town doesn’t provide to be shipped to you. We’ll probably add more buildings as we think of them. Each building serves a function and will (with the exception of private homes) employee NPC’s. Depending on the game mode players vote on at the start, you may be able to work there too (but you won’t be allowed to automate your guy you’ll have to do it yourself).

Farmers
The farmers (players) will be able to pay for the services of a butcher (or do it themselves >:D) and sell meat to the meat processing plant. They’ll also be to order things to be delivered to them via telephone or computer. The paper mill will accept lumber from trees you may have cleared for farming land (note: don’t try to farm on conservation land or fell trees there or you’ll be in trouble with the authorities and be asked to pay a fine). You can also try to sell things to people on the street by opening a roadside stand. If you want you can also have some advertisements printed out and post them in certain public places to try and attract more people to a place. You can even start your own store and sell fresh produce there if you and your fellow farmers have enough money. Otherwise, the best way to go is storing in warehouses where the food will then be bought by retail stores.

Buildings
Buildings in FSB will be like buildings in The Sims. You’ll be able to go inside them, interact with things, and unlike in the Sims destroy them. Players will be able to plot and construct new buildings if they have the money. Buildings in the town will be serviced by repairmen when damaged.

AI
Everything will be automated. With minimal input you’ll be able to get workers planting, harvesting, storing, and selling, and generally running every part of farming operations automatically. AI can even use weapons (Weapons use projectile physics, much like in Elimination Tournament II). All the townsfolk will be able to do there stuff with no input from the players at all. AI will learn to do the tasks they perform better as they work at them. You will still be able to involve yourself a great deal on the micro level too though.

Townsfolk
The town will be a very busy place filled with people working, walking about, and shopping. Most of the people will come from roads that lead outside of the map kind of like in Roller Coaster Tycoon. If something terrible happens ( >:D ) and lots of people die, once things settle down more people will come back and move into the town. The exception being zombies mode, since the objective is survival the town will not be replenished of people until the round is over and all of the survivors have been infected. Buses, cars, trucks, etc. will also transport people and goods to the town. Townspeople and visitors are not under the control of the players and they will be the ones performing the NPC jobs, running the businesses, providing you with income, and just doing the random stuff people do.

Jobs List
(list is incomplete and more jobs will be added overtime)
Services
Delivery
Garbage Collection*
Sanitation (janitor)*
Cashier
Shelves Stocker
Manager
Police
Doctor
Manufacturing/Production
Farmer
Factory line worker
Butcher

*planned for expansion but may not be in initial release

Special Events
Depending on what happens in the game certain special events can occur. For example if you guys decide to build a house out in the fields, hoard up food, and withhold all business thus starving the people in the town overtime you could cause riots. You could also get the police and even the SWAT after you if you cause enough chaos by killing people, destroying property and vehicles, etc. Other special events will be present but I’m not going to give away how you cause them all here ;D.

Time
There will be lots to do in this game but will not be very slowly paced. Time will be compressed – a day (around 12 minutes) could be enough time for a human child to mature to adulthood. Btw, breeding will not be your main way of acquiring new workers for your farm… you’ll be able to hire more people for your workforce in the town as you earn money and expand.

Game Modes
• Farmers VS Farmers (Make more money and cripple the opposing business)
• Freemode (Do whatever you want)
• Zombies (Survive masses of zombies)
• Custom (you get to choose the rules)
• Debug (you get to screw everything up) [Note: In the first public release and thereafter, debug mode will only be unlocked when every player in the game has completed a round of Farmers VS Farmers]

Features
Physics – Applies to weapons, movement, and vehicles. Cars can be driven off ramps, run over things, etc. Weapons are like ET II but more realistic and require ammo.
AI – Everything can be done be automated.
Weather – Clouds, rain, wind, etc.
Breeding – Applies to all living things. Doesn’t need to be explained any further <.<
Economics – Jobs, Buying/Selling/Auctioning, Marketing, Supply/Demand is a factor.
Custom UI – You’ll be amazed by how far I’ve taken this. It just doesn’t look much like Warcraft III anymore.
Epicness – The game just pawns.

Expansions
Right now my goal is to actually be able to release the game so, while the first release will be very much playable and fun it won’t be as complex as we’ll make it in later re-releases of the map. For example at first you’ll bring livestock directly to the meat processing plant and sell them there but later on I’ll make an auctioning system where you can auction of your animals and the price you’ll get will depend on supply & demand as well as the quality, age, species, and purpose of the animal. I also plan to add more features such as genetics (so you can selectively breed animals to get different traits). Another example will be your people’s dietary requirements becoming more complex and even more crops to grow and different ways of making them grow faster. I’ll even add more NPC jobs like mail/delivery man and some new buildings like a restaurant. The only limit is our imaginations– and the map file size.

I like the idea, but the terrain looks too simple as it is now. Also, I'd prefer a farm map without any sort of combat whatsoever, something more similar to the Harvest Moon Series.
