I guess only display damage via an multiboard or texttag with some other kind of interface and/or only display the damages via texttags that fly off when the spell is cast.

You could just say the damage is based on level and intelligence and not include formulas in the tooltip. Usually players just want to know what a skill does and how to increase its effectiveness. Not many people want to sit there calculating every stat change, which I know is why you hate having math formulas in your descriptions.

Example: Fireball
A powerful blast of heated energy that deals 10 base damage to a single target with additional damage based on your hero's intelligence. Each skill level increases base damage by 10.

Players will see the actual damage or effectiveness of the skill when they use it anyway, so you don't have to be too specific.

Well, you will just have to give some make-up to your tooltips to hide that.
Example: The Warden shifts the moon cycle, causing magical damage to nearby enemies. Damage is equal to multiplied combined agility of nearby heroes.
Level 1: 150% Agility in damage.
or
Level 2: 1.5 damage per 1 Agility.
