New Content Discussion [SPOILER]

Time to embrace the past.

In retrospect, I wish the Bloodclaw ending had actual dialogue. I understand, that due to the many paths and possibilities, it would take ages, but... I really would like a longer ending, with (at least some) dialogue. Most of the narration could stay, but the interpersonal relationships of Gardon at the end of his story could be more "fleshed out" with some dialogue. For example:
The scene where Gardon and Prax meet again, and leave each other on friendly terms.
A longer scene between Gardon and Theodor or Catherine.
The talk between Gardon and Aveen's shadow, where Aveen vows to stay by her Thero's side.
Gardon's reaction, when they arrive at the portal.
Gardon having a talk with his children, Vail or Larine, and his mentor (if he has any).
I understand this would be a huge undertaking, but I feel like it would make the story feel more "complete", than it is now.

I just wrote a dialogue with 4 different branches yesterday (I am not telling you if that was
for the Path of the Nameless or another path), so I won't make any promises.

That being said, I like to be transparent with these things so here a few plans:
1) Once the Path of the Nameless has been completed, I intend to release Legacy of Arkain to the Map Section.
While the campaign will definitely not be finished at that point, it will include 17 playable missions, which is quite
substantial.
2) There are certain areas of the path that I consider reworking with this release. One to give you a reason to play
them again and two because I am not entirely satisfied with certain parts of it. The epilogue being one of those.

I am not going to promise that this will happen, I don't make empty promises and Legacy of Arkain already is a huge project,
but the possibility of this being changed has already been on my table.
It is also possible that I will not change this until a big rework happens (the kind we do not talk about at this date, way too early).

What I can say with absolute certainty is that this is not going to be the "norm" for other paths and that if there is a rework of that
epilogue, it will not happen before the Path of the Nameless has been completed.

I have been pretty happy with the story of the path so far. It has been a fullfilling journey. But there are things I have been thinking. I feel both Aridon and Trekagoth got taken out too early and too quickly in Bloodclaw path? They are literal gods and Aridon wiped out an entire army of demons by himself in one of the true story chapter. For an entity like him to get spanked by six guys in the room is too....easy? But I think, or maybe it has to be work of the Redfist sisters and phoenix guy who has been working behind the scene weaken the gods since premise of the Path of Circle is godslaying?
So ending of Bloodclaw path may also be spoilerish since we find out Lady Maera help assassinate Vael which we are not supposed to find out until we play Path of Beauty. So i think due to how the paths are structured, playing one path will lead you to unintentionally being a bit spoiled since you get some pieces of information you are not supposed to find out yet before you play their own respective paths.
Anyway, cheer to Shar and the community!

You're not wrong about spoilers (or small insights) being a thing.
You know that there was some sort of cooperation between Meya & Velina but the details remain to be seen.
Furthermore, this only happened in your timeline if you picked the elven children to accompany you so some
might not have seen this at all. :p

What I will also say however is that you should not underestimate how different the timelines
of the different paths can end up being in Legacy of Arkain.
And that there are many things happening off screen you are not aware of just yet.

I am not saying that all you have seen so far is non-canon for all other paths, just that you have to wait and see. :peasant-wink:

Don't worry, the poll was just which path would come first, not which path would replace the other. :peasant-wink:
oooo ok ty for the replay is just
After his wife died, his three daughters—one possessed by a demon, another with the undeads, and the third..... well, who knows where she is now. Personally, I think he should move on from his past and focus on a new future with this mercenary family who at least care about him and protect him, instead of his constant thirst for revenge. If I remember correctly, he did kill his wife's murderer. As far as I'm concerned, he should just go to sleep or get lost. Now my story is over, yours is finished.
That's my point of view after so much death, pain, and sorrow.

Gameplay: Meh went into arena first, mistake, should've farmed for artifacts first. Overall dont like micro missions.
Story : Ok, gets the ball rolling at setting up the state of the game Ok twist, trying and failing to play the long game. Not really a surprise since hes not the subtle type.

Question, Duke Redfist had a second wife? Thought one died at beginning of story. Will we get a Redfist-Undead alliance? Now that his daughters are with the Undead?

What I will also say however is that you should not underestimate how different the timelines
of the different paths can end up being in Legacy of Arkain.
Is like a What If with canon events, maybe in the "true story" we will see Gardon raid against Kerrel and going to Rodan but does not means necessary that Aridon, Bryan will be part of it, maybe Bryan and 100% Tregakh.

Maybe a true story of the Legacy is Aridon being defeated by Cora or perhaps Praxeus + Krom vs Aridon.

Now about the actual chapter, interestly, i ask myself if Zoia is actually using Inara to spread chaos among the Dominion and if we will see a moment like Zoia using Inara to speak Volarian like "Hello again, let me help you to defeat the Dominion", because Zoia is preparing something like this for 20 years just waiting the moment, because of this Inara soldiers are not named as the same of the Dominion

I see now how Volarian will win this war, he will use external factors to weaken the Dominion and take advantage of the chaos to eliminate key leaders of the Dominion. Like using the undead, making a deal with the dwarfs, or trying to infiltrate himself to assassinate Amari

Just finished the new chapter. I have to say, I'm very much intrigued that Volarian's story has more colors than just red. Now, he's more patient, and awaits the right moment to strike unlike his past self where he would charge in like Dorbric. It's also interesting to know that he even hesitates at times when it comes to his second wife. Shows that he still has a humane side to him. He also felt sorrow for Vanessa's death rather than saying that it was what she deserved (something I thought would be the case). Now the hunt for the rest of the children are at hand. I honestly wonder how they would see their daddy now. Perhaps his time as a mercenary gave him more emotions now. For what we know, Aedale and Cora are working together while Orie sides with Ebira. I feel like Cora will have the least tension with her father, but I'm not too sure since she still studied under Rahandir, who's undead.

I'm also interested in the new human characters, the archduke looks very cool and regal, while the dude in armor reminds me of Dorbric, probably because he's a Berengar as well. And apparently, the duke's faction, Redfist, are still active, which is pretty interesting, considering that most of them, along with the salrians and imperial regiments, were slain by the dominion.

I'm now interested in another full-scale war map like the last missions like Red Day (but Pride of the Empire remains and Gates of Hell remains my current favorites)

We will see Volarian fight against Undead Vanessa right? It will be interestly, specially if we will see Volarian rage also being aimed to Aridon for killing Vanessa.

Because Aridon use her against Gardon in Bloodclaw Path.

If that happen it will be the 2nd time that Aridon will die

There was a undead vanessa model used way back when that got ppl gossiping back on the three book era that could make a comeback

I find it hilarious that Volarian, after losing almost all his progeny, getting burned to a crisp by his own daughter, being used like a walking standart by the vermin, living 20 years without his memories as a mercenary and gettining his memories back realised he kinda missess his second wife with whome he really only married for political reasons 😆.

He's getting sentimental and all.

Over under on an actual Redfist family reunion? I thought this idea was bust after Vanessa was killed, but then undead Vanessa popped back up in Path of the Bloodclaw! I guess the three younger sisters don't even know she exists as their step-sister.

Now, I'm actually hoping that the path where Aridon sends Vanessa to deal with the other sisters, and when they face each other, Aridon would have died in the battle against Bloodclaw and Brian. Vanessa would then be liberated from Aridon's control and assist her stepsisters in their endeavors. Volarian would then attempt to find Orie, then flame her for not learning from her sister, Aedale's, example. Another that I can see is Volarian himself along with the other sisters facing off against Aridon, but it would only weaken Aridon enough for his grip on Vanessa to weaken, and enough for Cora/Aedale to free her. Though i would prefer that to happen only after the dominion falls.

He is still Redfist, don't worry :p
Like Ira (Aridon), said before, Redfist had one of the strongest armies of humankind, but he was blinded with too much wrath. If he could control that wrath, that would basically be the dominion's downfall. I don't wanna see that Redfist again. I like it better when he wields his rage like tempered steel than a raging fire.

The songs were FIRE . Knew under your supervision AI could be used responsably enough to make useful and rather qualitative things....that being said its just as important that you enjoy and are pleased with the process aand result...

Lindras song is questionable...the way she describes herself is Meya level șelf centrism and while the golden guard are arogant thats next level ...😂😂😂

Back to the legacy of arkain as I didnt have time to comment or play the map until today...Great work. Redfist is a fun character to finally experience...that being said I would like to know why veteran rank was nerfed(lacking an ultimate is a BIG drawback and the stats were insane yes but there are more broken things in arkain... it always seemed to create a sort of balance even at 15 each...10 is quite little and with fire bomb you really feel it on the mana (and a bit on the regen).

Now about his ark...I am actually curios if he can kind of reunite his family to a degree...meaning make peace with Cora and Aedale... the option of forgivness for a too angry to die character would be an amazing ark...hopes are slim yes but not dead ...yet.

P.S: Inara was not Willing to believe in Redfist quest for love such a shame ...Guess in the case of chosing love as your request his crushout should be described as a reaction to being rejected :)

can anyone drop campaign file with that map unlocked? i really dont want to replay whole prologue again
No one has permission to create or edit anything Arkain related, and post it here, but I see no harm in giving you instructions on how to edit the campaign to unlock the map for yourself, without playing the prologue.

Step 1: Open Legacy of Arkain Demo.w3n (the campaign file you downloaded) in the World Editor
Step 2: In the Campaign Editor, go to Loading Screen, right click under "Campaign Screen Buttons" (where all the other maps are listed) and then click "Add Button"
Step 3: Name the chapter whatever you want, but make sure the file loaded is: Moon01.w3x
Step 4: Tick "Visible (first time campaign is loaded)"
Step 5: Save the map, and it will be selectable, when you open the campaign in game (not from the Keep of Fates)

I hope that helped! Also, I wonder, will this map be playable in the future? Amanda took Gran's place, and "Path of the Truthseeker" became "Path of the Moonseeker", so that makes me think this map might be temporary... or will Amanda get an extra slot eventually?

Just about done I believe, I'll likely be at work by the time the chapter releases but I hope you all enjoy it.

Oh and I think a few things will surprise you.

My apologies to anyone who thinks the chapter release was right away from my post, a lot of the time I'm at work when Shar releases chapters.

Great mission! I choose to not accept Ira's gift, because I don't trust the weird blind lady for some reason. Maybe because I know her full name is Nodira... anyway, magical swords are bad news 9 out of 10 times in fantasy, so I declined it. The mission itself is fun, although I found it weird, that every enemy faction had dialogue with the Redfist, except for the south western Tribal Dominion. The ending was really emotional and well written. I decided to go home, because slaughtering orcs will NEVER make Volarian happy, it will just cause more misery, as Ishzog said. Although, it is interesting that if you decide to kill the orcs, Orie joins you. Also, accepting the sword, but then going home has a really funny scene at the end:

I'm really excited to see what comes next!

Just finished the chapter. Got me moving feelings left and right for the Dominion's known heroes, I didn't take Ira's gift just because I don't trust such names, as Karmondia said above. I decided to go home because I think Volarian only exists to see Orcs burn, I believe he will eventually come to senses and find his true goal in life, with his daughters. Overall, really, really good chapter, a banger even. Can't wait to see future story.

Gameplay. Fairly solid base assult would rank it as mid to hard. Your healing is weak and you still want the riders for the spell resist against orc casters. Thankful for getting extra reinforcements for destroying bases.
Storywise
Threw away weapon and went home, then went back to see what happened if you didnt;). Overall fairly solid mission that does a good job at reintroducing Ira and the daughters. Makes me want to see the effects for both choices in future missions. Overall great contrast between want to go home and desire to finish mission once and for all.

Oh! Guys! What I have to say is that I encountered a fatal error while playing the latest chapter RTS levels using version 1.31. Every time I pick up the gifted knife and skip the animation, the game freezes after a few minutes of playing. I don't know what causes this fatal error or how it is triggered, but I never experienced this when playing with version 1.31 before.

Finished the chapter. Sad that some of the main dominion characters were killed, and will likely end with the death of the Amari and Brian. The shadow faction was interesting. Hoping to see that in future missions too (maybe in chapters when we have to face the zyaise). I'd like to think that blackrazor was a reference to frostmourne similar to what karmondia posted. If that's the case, then two lich king references were made, it makes me really happy (first was gardon's model and flavius giving him power). Though it makes me curious if we were to take the veln path. I chose to use blackrazor, cuz why not? As much as i hate aridon's bones, the items was pretty useful in general.

Took a bit of a break from warcraft 3 but I finally caught back up to the Path of the... Redfist now I suppose..?

Chapter 2 :
  • It's really cool to see the different factions of the dominion, especially with the beautiful new models !
  • Overall, the level feels a bit too slow, especially with how big the map is. Outside of the arena, the fights aren't particularly engaging (which makes sense, being limited to one single hero) but they can get tedious. I think maybe Volarian having his Frenzy in this level too could help make it faster. Maybe Inara could also supply us with a couple of other agents ? (No orcs obviously, maybe some humans and bearmen, so we'd get more Volarian seething at working with traitors) They could get out of the way when he meets the centaur and gets captured, and then rejoin with him outside. Then they'd get betrayed by Volarian after Inara leaves and the undead attack.
  • A bit sad, I expected Volarian to fight the salrian lord he just killed for Inara as an undead... though there might be some later plans for that so I'll keep holding my breath ^^
Chapter 3 :
  • Obviously I accepted the sword because, contrary to popular belief, strange women distributing swords is a strong basis for any system of government !
  • A really nice macro level. Your ally is very useful, mainly because they protect 2 out of 3 of the entrances in your base and because of Volarian's brother in law's physical inability to die (Seriously I've seen him survive a minute after all his men were dead, he's awesome).
  • The different dominion forces are quite nice, especially the demi-heroes in the temple (I hope we get to see them in the dominion-adjacent Paths !) and Grella's last stand was quite challenging ! A very solid level overall !
  • In terms of story, I was a bit disappointed that Volarian gets a new Redfist equiped and ready to go (I expected him to have to build it back up to a degree, maybe with conscripted salrian militias). But the relationship with his daughters and him actually starting to regret his behaviour (better 20 years late than never) are actually nice (and it helps bridge the gap between the Volarian we know and the Veln he was). The death of Vanessa, which I thought would limit Volarian's development, is actually a good driving force for the story thanks to Volarian's brother in law (so at least another character knows of her).
  • Obviously I proceeded to ignore it all and keep slaughtering the orcs because I felt bad for the murder blade that got ignored (and because having it and Aedale in the same place will likely lead to... a familiar situation).

Salarian dissidents being absent is the miss opportunity. Human are xenophobic by nature and will still rebel against their alien overlord even if these aliens are more benevolent than their human counterparts as soon as window of opportunity opens. But I really like Redfist's humanizing moments though.

While Salrian dissidents exist, Redfist is the last person they would or could rally behind.
In his eyes they all accepted their new overlords one way or another, so...
Not to mention the whole thing about him burning down their villages if they were getting too friendly with the centaurs.
They are not going to remain purely off screen in Legacy but they are not fighting for Redfist even if he could be a huge chance for them.
Not to mention that, despite everything, at the end of the day, Redfist is still an Imperial in their eyes. Therefore, both past and current events add another layer to this.
