I don't get why you can't get projectiles to work in your map. All you need to do, is to go to to the Units section on the Object Editor and go select your unit, go to Combat - Attack 1 (Or 2 if you plan on using either) - Projectile Art, and then from there select your projectile model.
If that doesn't work out for you, you can always use an item orb ability and convert that so it fires your specified projectile model, and set the damage bonus and effects to 0 and the duration of any effects to 0.01.
As for sounds, you can go to Combat - Attack 1 (Or 2) - Weapon Sound, and the attack should make sound depending on what you chose.
If not, then you can always reconfigure an orb ability again, so that it makes a sound by adding an effect to that orb ability and so it makes sound.
