Need good tutorial and program for texture wrapping
any good one?
any good one?
Is this all really true? How depressing. I was looking into some self-UV-editing recently, and finding it difficult, hoped that I just had the wrong program...Those are big and complex full modeling solutions, a small tutorial wont help you with anything, neither will you be proficient with them in a day or two, so don't expect that.
However, if ever in your life you plan to do something more complex than some geoset merges in Warcraft 3, I really suggest you to learn how to use decent programs, and not all the horror-inducing bugged and featureless programs people made for Warcraft 3.
This is even more important for UV unwrapping, because as far as I know, non of the community-made programs can do any sort of smart unwrapping, meaning you need to work painfully for a very long time doing a lot of dirty repetitive work (and believe me, it's long).
As general information, 3ds Max is fully supported for Warcraft 3 models, either using Art Tools (for the ancient 3ds Max 4 and 5) or via NeoDex (for all new 3ds Max versions, and for Gmax).
There was a simple exporter (or importer? or both? can't remember) for Blender, but it's definitely not what you want if you want to make Warcraft 3 models.

Wait, since when!? D:... which is akin to the people who stick to GUI and say that Jass isn't better (and we all know they are obviously wrong, right?).
...
Check out tutorials/examples of unwrapping in 3ds Max / Blender using seams and automatic unwrapping algorithms, you'll get what I mean.
All of the community-made tools are in general terrible for modeling (does any of them even have the basic Extrude tool?). The only reason I can see why people here keep using them is that they never used decent programs before, and/or don't want to learn how to use a more complex program than some bugged tool with 5 buttons, which is akin to the people who stick to GUI and say that Jass isn't better (and we all know they are obviously wrong, right?).
Here's an example: http://sophiehoulden.com/tutorials/blender/unwrapTut.html. The checkers pattern is especially important, to see how uniform your pixel density is. You will see some horrors if you use it on most of the models on this site...
lemme see my pocket.. oh....
Oh that's right... But how long does that last? I am actually in school, still, but I wonder...I would like to point out (yet again) that you can get a free LEGAL 3DS Max license from Autodesk's own site. Just make an account and download the educational license.
It's a 3 year license, but there's nothing really stopping you from creating a new account with another e-mail after it's expired.

Aside from ethics...
But yeah, 3 years is loads of time. Cool, thanks.
o... so if i get one can you be my teacher? xd
