Monster Hunter - The Beggining (Action ORPG)

Hello all !
i was thinking about a "monster hunter" map and i wanted to make it, my last monster hunter map seems not exactly same with the actual monster hunter game, so i will completely rewrite it :D
This is the wikipedia for monster hunter i case you don't know.

Firstly, there's no use of level, level just only shows you that he is a completely noob.
Example :
- Level 50 Hunter with level 1 rarity equipments (n00b)
- Level 28 Hunter with level 3 rarity equipments (Pro)
- Level 15 Hunter with level 6 rarity equipments (GOD)

There are so many features from the actual MH that i want to implement.

-Custom attack system !, you have to use "attack" ability to attack monsters in front of you instead of auto attack, so, skill is required :D
-Equipment paths and tons of equipments you can create
-Elemental damage engine
-tons of monsters and bosses you can hunts
-fully attachment system, every equipment you use will show
-sharpness system, every weapon has it sharpness shown in it's charges, if the sharpness reduced by half, it will only deal 50% of the damage, and so on.
sharpness can be increased again with a whetstone
-monsters will drop item instead of gold
-tons of items that has it's own functionality
-crafting system, create an equipment with items that dropped from monster
example:
Agito(great sword)

requires :
-Bone Sword +
-3 Piscine Jaw
-5 Big Monster Bone
-there's no abilities for the heroes
-no attribute system, attribute changed to this :
Strength = Attack (increase damage by 1)
Agility = Endurance (increase armor by 0.5)
Intelligence = Stamina (increase maximum energy(mana) by 100)
The hero's starting hitpoints are 1000, cannot be increased.
Energy regenerate 2.5xStamina every second, Stamina reduced by half
when you walk for some distance, can be increased by eat a meat
-cooking system in order to fulfil stamina
-combining system, which combine items to make it useful
example:
-Green Herb + Blue Mushroom = Potion
-Potion + Honey = Potion [M]
etc.
-fishing system, you can sell the fish for gold or eat it to increase your stamina
-teamwork quest, teamwork is very essential in this game, only the host can take quests
-4 players (or maybe more if you want to)


In order to fulfil the features above, i need someone with a good JASS and vJASS knowledge, since i dont know anything about it.

Progress:
Terrain=20%
Systems=65%(many systems i don't know in mh3 :p thx to supertoinkz)
Items=8%
Monsters=4%
Quests=0%

Current member:
Myself : Allrounder, but tiny knowledge on JASS :D
Midnighters : Part Time Allrounder :D
supertoinkz : modeller for monsters, and giving me alot of MH knowledge
Furby : Creating AI system ATM :D
Crimson-Guard : Tester and such .... :D

this is only the beggining, PM me if you want to join, Attachment Modeler and JASSer are needed the most.

Since the attachment system fully shows your equipment from head to feet, it needs a good attachment modeler, you can find some of equipment models from the MH wiki above.

Ahh at last, this is the demo map :D
This map is untested in multiplayer version

Map Update !


- added weapon sharpness bar
- added multiboard information about the hero's resistances
- added a roll ability, which is :
cause your hero to roll to the left or right side of him, evading any damage taken.
- added a kick ability, which is :
kick monsters in front of the hero, stunning it for 5 seconds.
- Great Sword weapon classes
- added combine, the combining system is only the demo, try combining "Herb" with "Blue Mushroom"
- Forest and Hills terrain 95% Done :D
- Implemented a little of AI to the monsters


Try typing "DeftheLynn is awesome" in the game, and you'll be rewarded ! :D

Will there be any new areas which hasnt been in mh? And are the Elder Dragons there?

yep, maybe i will add a cave area.

okay i currently got this few ideas:
a medieval flail(see picture attach)
a 'modern' crossbow with a scope(see picture attach)
a 'elongating' long sword that i have seen somewhere and i cant remember...
a combat staff that can be used to cast spells cos from what i heard and see there is none !!

ALSO: give you some new weapons to add in =)

EDIT: i might be able to help in weap models but well my knowledge is abit limited...)

Well in mh3, there are some areas or even levels that have water, you can swim in it and even dive, you can gather some items that only appear in water. But there will appear a gauge on how long you can hold your breath, it will make you faint when the gauge runs out. You can refill your gauge by going up again. But on some levels, like the underwater ruins where it is full water, you can only get oxygen on large bubbles.


Also there are many weapons in MH universe
Great Sword
Long Sword
Sword & Shield
Dual Swords
Hammer
Hunting Horn
Lance
Gunlance
Switch Axe
Light Bowgun
Heavy Bowgun
Bow

And also a Felyne Comrade. They are the small cat-like humanoids that are trained to serve hunters, they can also gather, attack, use bombs, and can gain skills. But you can't control them.

There are two types of weapons Felyne Comrades use.
Strike - Mauling Weapons, has a percentage to stun the target.
Slash - Bladed Weapons, nothing special >_>, but I think they have lower chances of their attacks to bounce.

And the Felyne Kitchen or the Bathhouse (used in the upcoming game, Monster Hunter Freedom 3)
But I suggest using the Kitchen.
There will be a maximum of 6 (I think, I forgot) felynes in your kitchen.
Each can have their own specialty or mix of specialty.
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Drinks
    You can order two kinds of meals on the menu, and each food have a bizarre names, and you can gain positive or negative buffs depending on your meal combination.

    I didn't saw this systems in your last map, maybe because it's based on the first MH.


    /@ Crimson-Guard, no. It's best to use the current weaponset.


    PS: oh yeah I forgot, I'll do the models, I promise :), you can whack me and blackmail me if I didn't.
    PSS: Please base everything on MHF 3, because it's the latest game. And I see you're planning to make a mhf 4, just add some things, don't do anything on the current monsters, weapons, and systems, just some adding.

Uklanos = Awesome! What model would it be, and cave area sounds nice, maybe put some mole-like monsters which only stay underground. And maybe put a custom item class, like guns or a greatsword which can be dual blades, or a gun-sword.
 
Will you do a custom attacking system? Or you'll stick with the current one you used? Please don't, use a custom one. And about the monsters, you can remove their attack and give them different abilities with different cooldowns, for example the velociprey.

Attack Jump - 7 sec cooldown
Attack Bite - 5 sec cooldown
Attack Claw - 5 sec cooldown

So their attack will be completely random.

Another example for my favorite duo, Tigrex and Nagacaruga

Charge - 7 sec cooldown
360 spin - 12 sec cooldown
Bite - 6 sec cooldown
Claw - 4 sec cooldown

And when they're life reached 20%, order them to pick a random area and move there to rest and sleep.

Cooking doesn't work like that :/
It works like this.

You should have an item called BBQ Spit or Gourmet BBQ Spit, then a raw meat.
If you don't have a Raw Meat, the BBQ Spit can't be used.
If you don't have a BBQ Spit and you used your Raw meat, your hunter will drop one raw meat, this will lure a carnivorous monster nearby.

So, here's go the cooking! :>
You will deploy the BBQ Spit and -1 Raw Meat. And take a note, YOU ARE STILL VULNERABLE TO ATTACK, SO WHEN YOU'RE ATTACKED, RESTART AGAIN.
A strange but funny sound will play. You will need timing here.
The meat has four colors.
Saturated Red - Rare Steak
Medium Brown - Rare Steak
Roasted Brown :)D) - Well-done steak or Gourmet Steak (if Gourmet BBQ Spit is used)
And Blackish Brown - Burnt Meat

When the funny sound ends, the color is still Medium Brown, but in a 2-3 seconds, it will be Roasted Brown and you should take the meat, or else, it will immediately form into Burnt Meant.

Also when eating any meat, it takes 4-5 seconds.

  • Add a roll ability.
  • Also, you can't use whetstone while your SnS is on.
  • Add a casting time on those items, they are not instant >:C.
  • Use the faerie fire model as doodad on those Bugs.
  • DON'T USE THE MHF ICONS, USE WC3 ONES PLOX.
  • Improve the sharpness system, make it a bar instead.
  • Use Green bar on the health and blue bar on the stamina.
  • Kick ability.
  • Remove fog of war and black mask
  • To save the space in your unit's command menu (don't know what to call it, the one where the abilities/commands are located) you could use this http://www.wc3c.net/showthread.php?t=90205 , and modify it.
    Like when a player pressed ESC, it will show.
    (the menu that shows when press start (most common) in your mh game)

fog of war and black mask removed ?, so you can see anything on the map ?
the multiboard menu seems great though .....
i wont sleep this night :D

Im not sure, I can do a little terrain, making icons, and triggering.

could you make a wc3 style mushroom icon ?
i need blue, red, yellow, orange, and black.
also, edit the BTNShimmerWeed and recolor them, could you ?
well, you know, like in MH, plants, mushrooms, stones, and the other that has different color but same style, but i want it to be wc3 style icons :D

Change their colour? Or totally edit them?

And here, a sorta glow in the dark mushroom, a poisonous one, a glowing mushroom and a red one.

First feeling: 6/10
- seemed nice to me :)
Terrain: 8/10
- very well done terrain, I like it :)
Gameplay: 7/10
- I like the attack system :)
Overall: 7/10

Found bugs / issues:
  • map is called "Just an another.." ^_^
  • run ability does not really drain 100 mana per sec, I could be using it the whole time
  • when my hero died, I uneqiupped and it created item at hero position but didn't unequip
  • took me a while until I realised I can't do anything else after death, you should add some message so player knows that

yea :D, it's only the beggining you know, i havent update it again, still, i need a save n load system for this map, and an AI coder for the monsters ...
ALSO !, an attachment modeller ...
hmpph .... it's hard to find those people .... :D
