Modeling Fiasco

So, I've never modeled before but decided to try it out and I think I've completely mangled it.

Here's where I'm at; my model appears correctly in the world editor but once I test the game ... the unit to which my model and skin are attached changes to a different model. (Basically a footman looks like a footman in the world editor but when I start the game it looks like a knight). I've got no clue why it does that nor how to fix it. Any advice?

P.S. I've been digging around in the MPQ files so that's almost certainly the problem...
(Also, it's safe to assume anything that I could've done wrong, I did wrong.)

Anyone have any idea? I'm pretty sure I just need to figure out how to create a texture out of several images I've got then import that into the game, I'm just not sure how that'd be done since all the tutorials seem to be geared to editing skins rather than starting from scratch.
 
For me, it doesn't load the textures because they do not exist.

I assume you changed the MPQ to include those textures, right? ;D

Well, for textures you must use UVW texture unwrapping. For information on that, refer to this tutorial:

(there may be one on this site as well, I am not sure though)

I suggest you unwrap it onto one texture, as that is what I see most often. I am not sure if it works with multiple custom textures. If you use GMax, refer to this tutorial for unwrapping:

Hopefully that'll clear some things up. Unwrapping allows you to assign portions of a texture onto specific portions of a model. The process depends on the tool you use, but generally it should be pretty similar between them all.

Here's where I'm stuck with the unwrapping tutorial, they're already got the texture in one file whereas I want to pull different skins off of different files and am unsure as to how that'd be done.

I'll upload a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

Since you are only using a portion of each texture, you should copy and paste those portions onto one 256x256 texture.

It is a bit hard to explain, but let me give you an example.

Pretend you have these two images and the white lines is your wrapping:

Ignore the smiley, that is for separation to show that they are two images. lol. :p

If you want them to be on one texture, you simply move those portions onto one texture. Like so:

If that makes sense. Basically, put on only what you use for your model.
