Py, what the heck are talking about, "now one will finish their model in time". People have been pushing that agenda since modeling compo 14. Yet, 14 had tons of models.

I don't see why you are such a poly Nazi. Even the way you moderate my models. If there are unseen, polies, they are unseen. They don't add to the filesize. Take the observatory. It has 17k polies. But, you only see 3k at a time. Therefore, the model has 3k polies.

People have better computers now. Yes, believe it or not, we can all turn on shadows in WC3. Our hard drives also carry more than 10gb... And, the WC3 engine's limit is far higher than you think. Add 12 footman at one time. (How much you generally see at one time. A lot of polys. 12 footman vs 1 boss unit...umm....

So, I see nothing wrong with the colossus theme. I just whipped up a decent colossus test model in 1 hour. I will submit it in the model section soon. If you decide to give the people what they want and make the contest "colossus" then I shall make another, better one. In like, one hour.

But, my gosh, we are starting to see a lot more furfags. Though, colossus votes still seriously outweigh the "glorified doodad" votes. (As archy calls it.)

I don't get why people want critters...honestly..."Come on billy, let's go make a rabbit! After that, we can make a carrot too!"

There's no real talent. It's a freaking rodent. Omg...

Gah, I am sick of this. Do what you want. As if I or anyone else have an effect anyway. -.-

And, Thisruory, wtf...No one will download a 200kb critter. That's retarded. A critter is a furry model with no attack, spells, or alternate animations. Stand, walk, death. That's it. Real fun.

A colossus is an epic boss unit that actually requires skill...um...yeah...small diff. Compos are NOT about the downloader. They are about skill. Hense...the word "contest"... A critter does not require much skill.

If it were about the downloaders needs, there would be no contest. Frankly, it is about the modelers. Not everybody else.

Well lets see if we can get a moderator to change the poll to public. I should have had it that way to begin with. But whos vote do we count? do we count the users who have submitted models or people who will ENTER the contest?

And if the latter... then do we have it so people ENTER the contest before they know the theme?

I think that that would sound like a perfect idea actually.

maybe restrict voting to people who actually know a thing or two about model making. dont have to know how to make or animate, they dont have to have past model making experiences or approved models.
they just need to have enough knowledge to appreciate a model. not some random who will go "OMG THE SCREENSHOT LOOKS EPIC!!1!1! 1000000000000000/5 "

and yeah, if it was really about downloadability and usability, would i really have made that daft punk tank?
it is less useful even than a batorc :p

Well, pyramidhead, that is all fine and dandy, but who would fit in that category...

How can anyone say "who has enough experience" or "who has good taste" in modeling... or in anything for that matter, because that would be an opinion on an opinion... and that would be... MADNESS

I would say... those people who have submitted a model that has received at least a 4/5 by moderator review.

Ya i know it seems elites and completely fascist.... but It is the only definitive way to tell if someone has enough or "good" modeling experience.

It seems like that would encompass a large am amount of people as well. So its not completely elitest. They have to have EXPERIENCE in making models.

i can think of tons of people. shamanyouranus GF, Mr.bob, pyramidhead, ike_ike, jigreal, thrikodius, and many MANY more. who are coincidentally enough.... the people who actually enter modeling contests.

It would work, it would just take more time.

Either way would work. Just as long as the particapants get what they want. XD

Well Pyritie might have a better standing in saying "critters is the theme" if he actually participated in the contests instead of just overseeing them..... or happycockroach for that matter.

But I've been making models...so I guess my opinion is quite valid...

I really don't mind anymore. As I said, I lost all my modelling stuff along with my laptop, I won't be able to participate. :bored:

I don't want to do colossus now. We just had a contest that was more "complex" - I'd rather have the colossus theme later, like around christmas break or something.

It's not a contest if there are only two or so entries.

At least you are agreeing to do it. That's good.

But, to tell you the truth, a lot of people would be gone during Christmas. *cough* me *cough*. HT obviously would join, I would join, Archy would of course join, Skrab might join (maybe. I'm not really sure.), I'm sure GF would, plus a bunch of noobs.

Sounds like enough to me...

This thread can be pretty much summed up with this picture.

Py doesn't want to do it because he thinks that it will not produce enough successfully finished models. Which, in my opinion, is a bogus point. D: More pro modelers would join and finish than any other... *cough* critters *cough*

Granted, he is going to put critters for a minicontest. Still....seampunk won't produce as much.

buddy, A collossus is just a normal unit, which has a larger size. I dont see the difference between creating a Make a Collosus Theme and Make any model you want theme. You can resize any model in War3 and call it a collosus. Blizzard did. (largest panda ever?)

A colossus has slower anims, larger particles, more detail, and epic attack and spell anims. Critters are small 10kb 100poly creatures with 3 anims and no place in the WC3 tech tree. And, when Blizzard resizes their units, that is not colossus. That is the equation that tells you Blizzard sucks. Shadow of colossus, the game, has colossus's. Supreme Commander, has colossus's. Demigod, has a colossus. Look closely. The difference is quite clear.

When I say slower anims, I mean large epic lumbering strides, with massive impressions in the ground. Simple resizing a regular unit is retarded. You just get a bigger version of that unit with the same bubbly animations that Blizzard seems to do so well.

Try scaling the footman up to size 7. Then make it run. Yes, it does look utterly retarded. Even if you slow down the anim, the walk motion looks aweful when huge.

A colossus is NOT simply a scaled version of a regular unit. It is a titan sized unit. With titan quality, and titan anims.

-Your buddy Bob. ;)

So does the model have to be made from scratch to be able to enter the contest?
