Thrikodius is right. The best way to do this - if you don't want the unit to have the ability itself - is to use a dummy caster. Uncheck "Hero ability" in the object editor and you can give it to a dummy unit. If you're not sure how to make/use dummy units, see this tutorial: https://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32827

Funny thing is, there's a guide to create what you need, too (section VII). Good luck!

When you finish the effect of spell,
Create dummy unit,
Give dummy unit illusion wand,
Make dummy use it on hero,
