Mathias Chronicles I - The Pursuit (Campaign)

Mathias Chronicles Redux Demo (Campaign)

Reviews
08:56, 11th Oct 2014 Orcnet: This is one of the great work of a campaign thanks for the previous makers and current ones who can bring up this awesome masterpiece back into action, the scenery, story line, and above all how it all would end is...
Don't know about this question, but I think this campaign was now saved on the latest version of World Editor (1.36). For now, you can only play the Redux Demo version of this campaign, which is extremely outdated today.
The Book of Rexxar campaign still has the legacy version (1.27b) in addition to the updated one.
thank you for letting me know

Do you still have the version prior to 1.36?
The original author has made several changes for this campaign by adding some features in the World Editor that can only be playable on the latest version of the game (with the Classic graphics, though), so you can't play it if you have other versions.
However, you can still play the sequel of this campaign (Mathias Chronicles II - Reckoning), which is still made with Warcraft III 1.27 (though you may encounter some issues if you attempt to do this on 1.29+).

It is a shame that you can no longer use Warcraft 3 Classic 1.31 backwards since some friends of mine wanted to try this campaign on their Warcraft Classics.

Mine as well. It appears that some custom campaigns will require 1.36 in order to play, like OutsiderXE's works. The War of Thorns (a campaign based on the WoW:BfA storyline, also made by the same author of this campaign) only works on 1.36.

Personally I wanted to install the latest version of Warcraft 3 since my hard drive is still enough for putting this 30GB client, but the resource consumption (RAM and VRAM Usages) are still intensive with 1.36, even with the Classic graphics being enabled (I don't want Reforged graphics since it literally kills my system). It's a shame since I consider the latest version of Warcraft 3 (1.36) to be the best way to play most of the updated maps and campaigns that made with 1.32+ WE, at least in the Classic graphics. The only downside is that you may not be able to play maps and campaigns that are exclusive to Reforged graphics, which obviously requires purchasing the game at all (such as CSW: Tides of Darkness).

There are still new players from time to time who don't want to use Reforged or can't currently afford to buy hardware strong enough for Reforged. This decision by the author deprives only the newest players who for certain reasons do not have Reforged (and 1.27 version of the campaign) to play a beautifully made game. And while the author has his reasons for doing so the newest players: you can very easily get the latest 1.27 release of ANY campaign made by Med. MapGuy. Don't ask how?!

Great approach with terrain(castle walls and etc), really enjoyed the knight charge fight. Great plot. One minor thing would be that when picking up items on the gryphon hero it doesn't attack. Other than that 10/10. Please adapt it to reforged graphics.

Hey I got this weird bug, from Map 3 onwards all the harvestable (destructible?) trees are completely invisble, just shadows on the ground, it's not gamebreaking or anything but it's just bugging me. Any idea how to fix it ? (Playing on Reforged's current 2.0.1.22498 patch)

The "invisible model" seems to be the result of save-load things. It is not something the original author will fix. Thanks Blizzard.

You can still play this campaign normally, but if you attempt to save and load that game again, those custom models are f-d up.

the auras on duncan and kyrean are bugged when you pick them next chapter you have no skill point and you dont have the auras anymore even if you use tome of retraining u can't get back the skill point

Very good remake, I always liked this story. Would it be possible for you to share with me an earlier version of this campaign? One prior to 1.36 where the models are not the ones from WoW and are more like the classic ones?

I believe the Redux Demo version of this campaign still uses the classic models. It's also playable on the pre-Reforged versions of the game.

I played this campaign quite some time ago but for some reasong didn't rate it nor commented about it.

Honestly, I don't remember much about the story, but I do remember I had tons of fun and same game mechanics. If you still have not played it, I'd strongly recommend you try this one. I'm currently playing part II so I'm a bit excited to see hows gonna end.

One thing I'd love to say about the author is that, I envy (in a good way ofc) how he creates such cool and pretty enviroment for all of this maps. Amazing.

Hey there, downlaoded a few days ago and find the campaign fantastic. Only minor issue on the newest version with classic graphics - My heroes lose their aura abilites in between chapters. They just straight up lose a skill point because of the fact.

This is a known bug which even exists way before Reforged came out. I think they might have fixed it post that.
The issues might be related to the broken game cache, which caused certain heroes to lose their previously acquired skills (like the aura you mentioned), as well as previously acquired items. It also persists in vanilla campaigns.
Basically, you have to click "Continue" button at the end of each map, which loads the next map straight afterwards before exiting the game or playing other maps. If you choose "Quit Campaign" at the end of the map, then returns back to the campaign selection screen and plays the next map soon after, the bug will occur.
I heard that it's not only the bug that still remain unresolved, but also the "campaign difficulty reset" bug.

Thanks for the info, I've only played on 1.31 before. Seems funny to me how Blizzard manages to break a game that has been working for the past 20 years.

so can i download the older map before remake?
The Redux Demo version still works on pre-Reforged WC3, but I really don't suggest playing that version as it lacks all features present in the remake version, as well as the fact some of his "remake" works (like Joe's Quest) can only be playable on the most recent version of the game. You can do so through Battle.net to get the most recent version (2.0.3.23101). Purchasing a full copy of Reforged isn't necessary; just use your CD keys from the original copy to download the Reforged "Classic" client.

The latest patch from Battle.net have really good advantages compared to the pre-Reforged ones in addition to custom campaign service, like online play through official server (you can still play against those who have full copy of Reforged), improved hotkeys (although most custom maps and campaigns were made with "QWER" system), World Editor upgrades (you can now make a map with 64 tilesets, which is a nice feature if you are on the recent patch), more possibilities for map features, and various bugfixes (no more invisible models upon loading saves).

You don't need to remove 1.31 (and maybe older versions like 1.26), but be sure to backup that 1.31 game file, and that your Battle.net doesn't let you update your existing 1.31 installation.

okay Thx! now ill try to download the latest version

Great campaign, great visual, great story, sounds, terrain, everything!

Few bugs and bad stuff I noticed:

  • Aggro mechanic is dumb, I attack enemies and people in 2 meters away are standing still watching me kill them and wont attack until I go to their face, enemy bases as well, not all units aggro and attack, makes this whole campaign dumbed down and much easier.
  • A lot of bugged items, being unique or rare but not working as intended.
  • Chapter 3: When I need to defend with dwarves after Lord Picket charge, from the first wave a lot of rifleman die and I am left with few, and Duncan does not arrive until there is 3 or 4 minutes on the timer, by then the second attack begun and I have few units to defend, it is impossible, I have no time, to train nor to mine for new stuff. I am playing on Hard so maybe it is supposed to come that late? I tried to win by stalling but did not work and my heroes died as well as every structure, but I did not fail the mission. There were no buildings, no units but I still won when the timer expired.

I tried again, microing my rifleman so I save up more, but its does not matter since the enemy attacks with like 80 pop army and I am there with 6 rifleman and 1 level 2 hero, so I can just kite them and make them chase me around the map wasting the timer.

I saw other yt vids of this chapter and Duncan arrives faster before the second wave and its not supposed to play out like it happens with me. I realised I cant lose even if everything is destroyed so after the first wave I went and saved the necromancer and looted some crates, the base was no more, but I still won waiting for 3 mintutes for the timer to expire.

  • Chapter 5: Kill all witch doctors mission does not work.
  • Secret Chapter: After meeting Dougal and he gives Elite Steam Tanks, they can no longer be trained in the Workshop, and I saw they could be before that.

I would probably give it 4/5 because of the balancing and the mentioned bugs, I don't mind any of the bugs its trivial or small stuff, but the fact that the aggro does not work made this very very easy, felt like Cyberpunk on release when everything looked great with graphics, perks, weapons and all, but the AI was so dumb that it made it boring since it was too easy. But I will give 5 just because these visuals and story are amazing and it is very old, great for its time, of course remastered, but its still a legendary campaign.

Onto part 2  Attach files

Did a quick little update! Thanks again to QuarantineAbser for helping spur this.
