The Mana Gathering Development Thread



A capture the point with a little twist.
This map is a team focused 6v6 pvp capture the point like game, where you search and gather mana from randomly placed mana sources to fill your teams fountain as the first one.

Autor's Note


I started this map by the mini mapping contest by Waterknight at this time it was known as
"water gathering".
I enjoyed the concept of the gameplay to use mana as the points you have to find and collect as well as the idea of the roles,
so I decided to throw all the unessesary systems out, add new well established system allmosts ones made by Bribe
and give the map a complete overhaul.
At the moment the map arrived the playable state but has still bugs and upcoming features maybe sometimes it's both in one...

The terrain is complete while I think about to take another look on it for the playabillity.

It is a 2 teams game where you can decide if you want to fight the enemy team or just try to be better, faster, stronger and win without combat.
It should be best with 8 players plus so every role can be picked by both teams.
the roles are:

[Q]Snare The treant use the sorounding plands to bind the target to the ground.

[W]Sphere Splitts half of the current mana to an orb that can be picked up by other treants.

[E]Control Increases the maximum mana amount and the via flow transfered mana.

[R]Quicken Increases attack and movement speed by a smal percentage and also increases the movement speed temporarly when the treant keeps walking.

[T]Roots The treant digs his roots in the ground to increase his mana collection.

[F]Flow Transfers mana from enemies or toward allies.

[Q]Parasite Hurls a Parasite towards the direction, when it hits an enemy its nested in him slowing and dealing damage over time.When fully grown the parasite spits from the host and attackes every unit.If it hits an 'overgow', it causes an explosion.

[W]Rebark Breaks through the old bark, loosing half of the maximum life to regrow over a short time to new strength.

[E]Impale The treant shoots spikes in a line in front of him damaging and knocking enemies toward him.

[R]Bark Wraps the treant in hulls of bark, reducing incoming attacks for each layer. When to much damaged is taken a layer breaks and releases spirits damaging sorounding enemies.

[Q]Ivy Summons healing ivy that increases the heal amount over time to an maximum and can be picked up any time by walking close to it.

[W]Overgrow Fills an area with plants that slows and damage enemies when staying inside.

[E]Poisen Poisens the target mana, so that everytime the treant casts a spell he got damaged by a percentage of the ability cost.If cast on mana orbs it damage the amount of mana hold in this orb.

[R]Thorns Grows thorns that jumps between random targets protecting the host when the host is an ally he got healed. if it is an enemy he got damaged.

[Q]Sprint The treant becomes one with the forest, increasing his movement speed and turns him invisible against enemies.

[W]Pop Bean Create a plant that explodes on enemy contact, when the plant dies its shots its seeds around that has a chance to create a new plant.

[E]Guard Summons a guard hovering stationary over the area and reveals it.

[R]Sensor Spots nearby mana sources and shots by activation a projectile in the direction of the closest one.

-Added the quicken walk move speed increasemen.
-Changed the 'mana control' ability so it gived aditional maximum mana.
-Fixed the bug that sources want be killed when out of mana.
-Added time display to the multi board.
-Changed the mana o' meter so it doesn't count after game end.
-Overworked the weather system and added the infos in the questlog menu.
-Changed the Hero creation so when a hero is created the teams fountains mana is reduced for more fairnes by uneven team sizes.

Update:

-What do you guys think should I go back to the water theme or should stick to the mana?

-Should I add more roles and what type of roles you would like to see?

Instead of changing the terrain I will work on a cam system that will help the player to spot the mana sources more easiely.

Ideas, suggestions and feedback as alsway are welcome.
