Release notes from 2005:
Phewww, made it :D After 2,5 years log and hard work I've finally managed to let a dream come true. Starting and finishing a project and giving people the chance to play it. Naturally, I didn't spend the whole time on this project, the truth is, I was leader of a clan, had to manage our Homepage and took a lot of time-outs to play other games. But all this I can do now without having to think that I still have work to do. I hope that you have at least as much fun playing this as I had creating it.

This campaign may only be distributed with this Readme-Document. send complaints, praise, hints and information to alexandrosdelas [at] gmail [dot] com . As long as I am not on vacation or in jail (joking^^... I'm never on vacation ;-D) I will answer every E-Mail within a few days.

Bob27: A good campaign. One thing that I think could be improved is the terrain, but still a very good campaign. Approved.

Of course...not! I've moved on to StarCraft 2. If I ever made another WC3 campaign (which I will not. I went into the editor a while back and it all seemed so unfamiliar) it would probably be Rise of the Horde.

You can check out any personal updates of mine on my blog-page: http://outsiderxe.blogspot.com/ If you scroll down a little you will find a 5 minute long video on a Starcraft 2 project.

I would, but I've never read any of the WarCraft novels (they're amazingly hard to track down in Tasmania), and would not know where to start. But I am working on a campaign called Journey. There's a link in my signature if you would like to check it out.

fun-fact: I started working on LotC even before I had started reading the book. I based it on the small piece of information I got from the W3 manual. This is why Durnholde Keep looks nothing like a keep, but instead a village.

Your campaign sounds nice. I'm interested in the team approach. I don't think I've ever seen something being completed in WC3 through team effort. Usually people can't agree or depend too much on another and become lazy, uninterested etc. I believe it's because of the role of a project manager/lead. People expect him to do the shitload of work in the editor but don't realize that his job is already problematic enough with communicating a specific vision for the project.

    That is a fun fact!
Sometimes a team effort can be alot better than doing everything yourself. If you aren't skilled in a certain area of modding, you can ask someone else on the team for help.
I'm set on seeing this campaign through, don't you worry about that.

Hi there :) I am playing your campaign right now, i have found a little mistake :) In the interludium between chapter 3 and 4, when Rekshaw approach Grom and Thrall, there is a little typo. Thrall says: Bu rekshaw is right.. (and so on) Instead of But rekshaw is right :)

Just wanted you to know, take care.

(all this is on lonely wolf)I cant get past the part were u have to stop the sheep from escaping. and the raiders don't let you attack the rock chunks to get to the knolls. all and all this is pure horde history, blizzard should have made this game years ago. i already knew about thrall from Wow the quest in the cavern of time to save him from Black Moore was like a small piece in the puzzle after i played this game.

You probably mean the pigs escaping. Stay at the back of the map, use the hotkey for the net (one of the NumPad Numbers), and be aware that they come fast but not very often from one side and slow but often from the other (can't remember which is which). Save whenever you feel comfortable.
If a raider's AI is bothering you you can kill it. You should be able to complete the quest even with losing 1-2.

You should be aware that Blizzard attempted to make a game based on Thrall's background. By Blizzard standards it sucked, so they just made a book out of it. If it wasn't for the book we wouldn't be talking to each other now.

@pahlavi5312: I can't remember exactly. It was probably from the now offline site wc3sear.ch, and then partly recolored by a friend of mine.

The game didnt suck, they were making it too long, and realised that it wont be that good for the time they were releasing it. I heard that the game is finished (except the videos), and that someone bought it from Blizzard, but doesn't want to reveal it in public.

You started making this before the release of the book, and uploaded first version in 2007? Wow. I don't have patience to make a altered melee.

Thrall is my favorite warcraft character. Very good campaign. Quests are good, mini-games are decent, not too fun, not too boring (It's hard to make a campaign with one hero), character potrayal is faithful to the book...
Only things that i don't like is that you did not make Thrall levels before the escape (but you explained why you did that) and (but that's a minor thing) is that pre-warchief thrall models have horns, if you could find someone good at modeling to remove them? And could you please add a orc spearthrower unit in Durnholde level, for diversity sake?

P.S. I finished the book 5 minutes ago, it's very good.

The only thing I did before I read the book was the terrain for the first Chapter. At that time redoing stuff for quality's or faithfulness' sake didn't come to mind. The campaign was originally released in April 2005 with a timeframe of about 2,5 years (breaks included) Hiveworkshop didn't exist back then.
About motivation: I like to make what I like to play. I don't ask around for what people would like to see in maps, I trust myself and myself only. The hardest thing is always the beginning of any map, which is why I think it is important to make a map playable as fast as possible and leave details or visual work for later. This way you can actually play and HAVE FUN with your map.
Nowadays I look at each map as an individual project, trying to make it as good as possibile before turning to the next. Although, for inexperienced mappers it's actually really, really hard to determine when a map can be called finished so they can move to the next. They come up with more and more ideas which seem cooler than the last ones until they can't fit them into the original maps anymore and start a new project. (This is what was happening to Duke Nukem Forever until Gearbox took over).
My opinion is that cool ideas aren't a guarantee for a successful or fun map. I can see why some people don't like the mini-games in LotC.

I would have liked to add the escape from the prison as the proper first chapter but it the campaign was already very big for an inexperienced mapper as I was then.

-It was good, but there's a lot you still can add. Maybe changing the blizzard tree model to a custom one will beautify your map.

    Creativity: 5.0
-Some nice ideas, like sneaking or some game like "The Death Sheep" but in another style. Fun minigames too, I liked the pacman part;).

    -Balance: 4.0
-Sometimes it was hard but sometimes it was easy. That's what I like to see in a campaign. Easy parts and hard parts.

    -Story\Instructions: 5.0
-I never get lost and didn't know what to do, the instruction are very good. About the story it is good but you still can add some of your ideas though.

    Final rating:4.8=5.0

Last words: The campaign was really good. The terrain could use some work but that doesn't matter. It was a great campaign! GJ

after olaying this up to the beggining of green tide i have a great opinion of the campaighn
obviously allot of work has gone into this game especially the minigames, so far everyone apart from the pig capture was brilliant.
thrall pacman was brilliant and i give it a *****/*****
spirit contact tornado was hard but addictive and earns ****/*****
stag hearding was enjoyable and fun *****/*****
the firey book retrieval of doom was almost unimaginativeley annoying as acting staight away it was hard not to lose at least 200 hp getting assrosted by bluefire no kids for thrall ***/*****
the first quest was well thought out and you kept up that good work through the missions so this goes for everything so far-
    terrain - *****/***** great
triggers - ****/***** no real gamechangers but did have to almost butsex the raider in the cave to receive his quest
item acquisition - ***/***** I realise it makes it easyer to have a cloak of darkness for stealing food, but locking the one before seems reasonable, not only that but there was a map in the same mission that had no apparent use and WAS locked to the inventory so for the followup missions the player still has it locked, redusing inventory space
overall **********/***** off the scale you should be verry verry proud of this and im up for checking out your other works (if any) i will hopfully review theese aswell +rep and rating five

I misread your review score as 5 out of 10 for the first couple of times^^ Please check my signature for other projects.

Yeah, the campaign certainly has its problems. Difficulty balance being one of the weakest points. Often people will become frustrated and confuse the improper balance with bad mission design, suggesting to completely remove the part of the campaign that frustrated them.

If you ever encounter things that frustrate you balancing wise you should do the following things.

    1. describe your experience in this thread.
    2. use blizzard cheats to overcome the situation (and then deactivate them asap of course).

It's true that I don't update the campaigns very often. I just don't like the idea of having multiple versions floating around the web. One of the awkward things I've seen was that people would translate the campaign (without contacting me first) with and old version. So far I've seen chinese and russian Lord of the Clans. There was also a guy trying to translate it to spanish while also giving major content updates to all maps....but he didn't finish :(

To anyone wanting to use assets of my campaigns: Please ask me first. I will certainly not say no, but I would like to have an idea of what people actually use them for.

yea got your other campaigns installed too but im trying to finish this first, ill review those too if i get chance but really the only difficulty balancing for the pig capture quest is to restrict movement to the back and possibly move the left wall in a bit so players can capture more easily on that lane (cuz if your at one side and one comes from that side your pretty much screwed
