Legendary Terrains

Here's a crazy idea, let's all team up and make a legendary terrain all together.

-someone makes the Relief and the tileset variation
-someone makes a structure
-someone else makes an other structure
-someone makes the sky (cloud, stars, sun etc.)
-someone else makes the fog (VOID?!)
-3 people teams to put down the doodads.

it is crazy I know.. but it WOULD be epic :D

Nah it wouldn't. We'd probably end up arguing for a few months on what it would be, madsen would go (stay) inactive, we'd start working on it, bitch at each other about how it doesn't actually look like what each one of us had in mind, and when we finally finish it would suck.

no offence to tassadoom, but i doubt that green rock golem is legendary...

i was analyzing it, and it seems really simple to make a golem like that out rocks.

and the atmoshere isn't spectacular at all. a good structure none the less, but it craves a nice atmostphere.

just my opinion ...

well its good, but not lefendary.

and the atmosphere could be better.
for instance, there could be a sky behind the forest, and have bits of sunlight creeping down into it at an interesting camera angle... right now its a regular-looking overhead view ...

for the most part, the envirnment is overwelmingly green, which in my eyes diminishes the structures significance to the screenshot, since it doesn't stand out ( because its also green )

but once again, its just my opinion, i am not bashing anyone, so dont take this the wrong way :p

and if anyone noticed, one of the golems eyes dropped on the ground in the far right bottom corner :p lulzzz

Well, I suppose using the calculate shadows would've been easier.. except taken more time.

Not really though. It probably would've taken less time, but the result would have been really bad because all the shadows would face the wrong direction.

Oh and for the doodads, I'd say I have about 250 doodads, 200 trees and about 600 cathedrals ^^,

Is there anyways you could "update" this thread (or make a new 1) so we can get some more terrains posted up here.
Cuz although these are very good, some seem outdated.
Maybe post a thread of "Epic Terrains"... i dunno just a suggestion :)

Fair enough.. i was thinking it was closed to new pics, but thats cool.

P.S. i nominate raid1000's "sunrise" screen for here, I like that terrain.
I would say its better then the death1xq3 or dawnqi3 pics posted up here, not to flame on anybodys work there all good.

Yeah, but that's because it's new, and those are old. If terrains like those were never made, I doubt the good ones we see today would have ever been made. Terrains that get put up here tend to use some kind of "revolutionary" technique that influences many people. As you will notice, if you look at terrains over the past year or so, most of them are influenced by these in some way.

For example the waterfall terrain, I'd say that camera perspective is now (or at least was for a while) the most popular camera perspective simply because that terrain, back then, was really amazing. Now the other one, Dawn (which I made), well without that you wouldn't see a fair amount of the lighting effects you see in terrains now.

I don't really see what Sunrise influences... sure it's good, I guess, but it's nothing particularly amazing, at least not to me. I'd say the Burning Sky is what started that kind of lighting use, and that's already up there.

I think we should add more terrain's even if they don't spark anything new. As long as they look really good and people like them I think they should deserve legendary terrain's. Atm, we have 17 pictures, and I am kinda hoping for something like 30 or even more, just so there are more terrain's to be viewed by newbies, etc.
