I recently got back to Warcraft 3 after 4 or 5 years. I want to make a map but I'm not sure which editor to use.

It has been a white so I don't remember the name but I used an editor which allowed a larger tileset (The max was larger than 12) and the size of the map could exceed 256x256.

I've done some research and I keep finding posts about JNGP being the obvious better choice between the two but could someone tell me what exactly are the pros and cons for both? Which one is the best to use?

Thanks in advanced!

Most of the useful features of WEU are already enabled in JNGP. If you really need some of the features from WEU, try enabling UMSWE in the menu in JNGP.

WEU has a lot of nice features but improper use can lead to corrupted maps, as well as other problems. The whole custom trigger thing is also not the best idea because a lot of it will be outdated by now and may not work.

If you want to know some cons about WEU:
Known Issues

Using advanced triggers will cause compile errors if advanced triggers
have not been enabled for that map. To change that load your map in
the WEU Enhancer and enable advanced triggers. Also make sure
you have a trigger in your map with the event Map Initialization
and the action Initialize Advanced Triggers.

All conditional events added by WEU sometimes cause compile errors
when the World Editor adds a invalid reference to the condition function.
As a workaround just convert that trigger to custom text and fix the
reference manually if this problem occurs.

When protecting WE Unlimited maps that use advanced tirggers
with the Map Utilities, don't use the obfuscate script option offered
by the map utilities. It would only corrupt the map.

When editing maps in the WEU Enhancer two you might see to
strange effects. Firstly the map size will increase. This doesn't matter
because as soon as you open the map in the World Editor and
save it there the size will revert to the original value. The other issue
is that older maps might have a file limit of 64 and if you activate
a feature and the files that should be imported would exceed the
limit of 64 files there will be some of those imported files missing.

If you import files into your map that have the exact same name as
files in the WE Unlimited executable mpq archive they will be
replaced by the files from WE Unlimited. You normally won't
notice that issue. The only file where you might come across that
problem could be TerrainArt\Terrain.slk or Units\UpgradeData.slk
if you activate advanced upgrades.

Anyway, the maker of WEU (PitzerMike) made several tools/extensions for JNGP which already do what his previous tool does. I say just use JNGP, you'll have a better time. :)

if u are using vJass or jass i would go with JNGP. Purge has already listed the cons about WEU.

JNGP is a very easy to use tool with many options. JNGP 2.0 is coming out and has a ton of more usefull things. one of those being the multi session tool. another is that it lets u implement tools into ur JNGP with a simple tool (not sure if that has been added yet)

if u are only a GUIer u could stick with the normal WE but JNGP still is better when it comes to exceeding the 256 x 256 limit. JNGP can go to 480 x 480.
also the tile set can be bigger in JNGP.

i say JNGP all the way. WEU is to buggy and who wants there map to get corrupted.
