I have not been "nominated" and I will not do it if I am, as I dislike being shamed into supporting a cause, however good, in the first place.

I know someone's going to get mad at me over this, so let me say this preemptively. Yes, ALS is horrible, however so are hundreds of thousands of other diseases and disorders. Are we going to do a Huntington's Disease Challenge where we don't eat or sleep for a day? How about a West Nile Virus challenge where we all go get bitten by mosquitoes? If you donated to every worthy cause out there, you wouldn't have any money left, so I wish these people would get off their high horses and stop pressuring people to donating to causes they don't want to. Until I see the Huntington's Disease Challenge and West Nile Virus Challenge, I won't relax my view on these stupid social media games. What makes ALS so much more important than the vast array of other disorders?

To be honest?It is more like a trend like Harlem Shake rather for people with ALS.Since about everyone I know has done it I haven't seen anyone even mentioning ALS.But I support everyone doing it in order to ACTUALLY raise awareness.Also this:

It's not being shamed it's a healthy use of friendly peer pressure. A fun way to get people all around the world involved in something. You're looking at it from the wrong perspective.

What makes ALS so much more important than the vast array of other disorders?

The fact that in America the ALS charity is the only national one I think which makes it easier for everyone to donate to it. Here in Britain we donate to whatever charity we like. It's a charity event not an ALS event which is what it was originally, so most diseases are getting donations from it, in Britain anyway.

Also, you've got to beat problems one at a time.

Honestly, a celebrity refusing to do the challenge would raise more awareness. Why?
Because the media would make a drama out of it, speaking about it for days and probably bugging him/her for it weeks after. Alot of people dont actually realise that the challenge isnt just 'this years trend' and would actually wonder why are they talking about that so much.

I'm fairly sure it IS an ALS event primarily; the point was that having ice water dumped over you is similar to symptoms of ALS. Ofcourse I might be wrong.

Either way my point still stands. No one is hosting these dumb "challenges" for diseases that people I love have. Why not? What makes ALS special?
