Suggested Players
| My intentions in making this map was to have a Hero Siege/Dungeon Crawler to play with my friends on Skype or on a Lan Party. Due to this mindset, the map requires a full house to be properly played. I have no intentions in going into tedious balancing for reduced player groups, though I have seen some people make it particularly far as a group of 4. That being said, I added a special item that spawns when the game is played in single player. The purpose of this item is for lone players to test out some features. It is important to note that single player gaming does not reflect the full house experience. If you are looking for more people to play with, try hosting this game on MakeMeHost. I always upload the latest versions there and enough people play it that you should be able to get a full house rather quickly. |
Gameplay and Inspiration
| This map is a hero defense/dungeon crawler, which combines elements from my favorite maps. The idea of each hero having a specific role and being color assigned came from Illidan's 7 Demon Hunters. This setup also allows players to setup a strategy in the lobby and discuss their roles. The waves in the early zone are also similar to 7 Demon Hunters, as each wave uses different combinations of the same units to provide variety and uniqueness throughout the fights. The idea of dungeons came loosely from X Hero Siege, as one of my favorite parts of that map was when you and your group are transport into a different zone to partake in unique challenges. Having your heroes evolve visually and ability-wise throughout the game came from DBZ Tribute. Having your initial hero change visually always felt exciting in DBZ tribute, plus it allowes you to change your ability setup to fill any gaps your party might have as they face new threats. |

Special Events and Minigames
| Throughout the game there will be minigames and special types of challenges that diverge from the classic Hero Siege/Survival concept. I added these to the game so that players can have a small breather once in a while. These such events range from Mazes to Tower Defenses. I made sure that these parts of the game are somewhat easy, meaning that you likely wont lose as a result of being unable to beat a minigame. My thought process here was that, if you spent the whole game upgrading and shaping your hero, you should only be able to lose in parts directly involving your hero. It would be pretty lame if you lost a game because you couldn't solve a puzzle even though your hero can take down bosses with ease. |
Heroes and Story | The story of this game is loosely based on the Warcraft III campaign. Basically you will be facing the same big characters you saw in the campaign. The heroes also follow the Warcraft III campaign. I feel like the stories Warcraft custom games that are completely original often get ignored, except by hardcore fans. So despite this game not really having a story, it is pretty easy to follow what is going on as these are characters we all know and love. Plus I feel like it's cool to somewhat relive the fantasy of being Arthas, grabbing Frostmourne, murdering your father and turning from a Paladin into a Death Knight. I am also pretty proud to have seem some people really get sucked into their characters while playing. I have even had games where some people spontaneously role play once they get their evolved character (I'm not making this up, I have really seen it!). I also like the idea of people calling each other by their character's name as opposed to by their color (I.E Yo Illidan grab that item. as opposed to, Yo Yellow Grab that item.) |
Abilities | I'm probably not going to win any awards for most original abilities here, most of them are simple edits of already existing abilities and some are pretty much the normal abilities with some simple added eye candy, especially for the base forms of all heroes. Though you may not agree with me here, I enjoy simple straight forward abilities. When starting a new game I really hate reading all the custom abilities that are so overly complicated. (When cast your Hero turns into a cucumber that deals X damage based on your enemies hps + the STR of your grandmothers age divided by a random number from 23 to your base agility + 16.). My abilities are usually very simple to understand and when you evolve and get a whole new set of spells, each new spell has the same basic concept as your old ones. But I feel like I was still able to keep abilities fun and special by allowing you to unlock new abilities through items later on and by adding special bonus effects when you maxe out your spells. This means that despite some heroes feeling like they are getting weaker as the game progresses, they will likely hit a pretty large power spike when they unlock a new spell or when they max out their already existing spells. |

@Senneria
Thank you for your feedback and bug report. Always happy to hear
Yeah the game is not really meant to be played solo, but I'm still pretty impressed you made it that far alone! Did you manage to find any secrets in your play through?
Yeah i'm also aware of the typos, I just always forget where they are when I open the editor I will try and fix a few for the coming version.
The waves in the Mini-game zone are not meant to give exp, though I left random item drop on, because honestly, at 65$ an item you'd have to farm a buttload to actually get some value out of it. Plus, honestly, due to the reduced attribute scaling, the items don't have such an insane impact. It's mostly about time work and figuring out the best way to fight bosses.
Hai, if you play on BNet, just add me on USeast or Northrend (EU), I have the same name as in Hive and we can play. Also on makemehost.com you can always find a full house, fairly easily, though you may run into some veteran players who take the game a little too seriously (AKA rage at noobs lol)
May I ask how was your overall impression of the game?
And thanks again for the feedback![]()
It has a pretty decent variety of items, there are two reasons I think you werent finding as many, you were playing single player which means you can't get very far, even at 3 players its very difficult to progress, and your probably weren't looking for SEEEEECRETS, which is dope as fuck that the creator put them in there.I played this map yesterday for the first time with the map maker and it's funThe spells could be a bit more original tho .. I just had war stomp pfff >.< What really bothered me is that killing a boss only rewards the killing player with gold (even tho it's a teamgame) that's kinda frustrating ^^ especially because the items are expensive and you get so less gold.
Oh and I think it needs more items. 4/5
Oh also, How do you upgrade items to Tier 3? We really could have used reincarnation stones. This game gets a hard 5 stars from me, It works well and smoothly, well balanced, the heroes adhere to their roles very well, The abilities have a familiar Warcraft flavor, but the VAST majority of them are not exact copies of any given abilities. I played with two of my friends, and we had alot of fun, but couldn't beat the game, we started losing after the furbolgs started spawning, (the minigames were awesome, though the mouse maze game was obnoxiously time consuming). The game would throw us out of the session sometimes, I have no idea whether that was a problem on our end or on the games end. One of my biggest personal pleas to the dev is PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE FIX GROM. Jesus Christ I can't begin to emphasize how fucking ugly he looks like after his metamorph, The Lich King Model for Arthas is absolutely awesome, and the story moments that you get to witness for the meta morphs are legendary and do a great job of throwing in OG warcraft Lore, but the new model for Grom is hideous and I don't understand why you use it, when Blizzard gives you a model that looks a thousand times cooler, with glowing eyes, and he's ACTUALLY red thus signifying his demonic Transformation. Anyways The combination of Secrets, Fun Gameplay, Great Abilities, MINIGAMES, Great Story Blending, and cool items, makes this undoubtedly the X-hero Siege of a New generation, and I would suggest literally every single Warcraft Custom Game player to try this out. 5/5
If you need more people to play with, try using makemehost.com for battle.net. You can get a full house in around a minuteI played with two of my friends, and we had alot of fun, but couldn't beat the game, we started losing after the furbolgs started spawning,
If you take it slow and use your divine shield and reveal properly it shouldn't be too hard. But I realize that it can be difficult(the minigames were awesome, though the mouse maze game was obnoxiously time consuming)
Do you mean you guys would get disconnected or desynced? Where do you play? On Garena, Gameranger or battle.net? I have never experienced this when I played, but I will look into thisThe game would throw us out of the session sometimes, I have no idea whether that was a problem on our end or on the games end.
Hmmm, many people have complained about the Grom skin. I like being able to have a brand new custom skin when you evolve, but maybe you are right. I will consider reverting it into the classic chaos blademaster skin. One of my biggest personal pleas to the dev is PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE FIX GROM. Thank you so much for your words man, words like that really keep me motivated to continue working on the map!nyways The combination of Secrets, Fun Gameplay, Great Abilities, MINIGAMES, Great Story Blending, and cool items, makes this undoubtedly the X-hero Siege of a New generation, and I would suggest literally every single Warcraft Custom Game player to try this out. 5/5
One of the ethereal stones is in the first room of the third dungeon (The one with all the mini-games)Oh also, How do you upgrade items to Tier 3? We really could have used reincarnation stones.

This is an issue with WarCraft III and not Evolve. It happens when you play a map that heavily modifies the regular WarCraft III game settings. Basically the modified settings get carried over to the next games you host and results in errors or crashes. Closing and re-opening WarCraft III after playing such kind of maps should prevent the desyncs.I believe we got desynced, and if no one has complained about this issue, it is more likely a problem on my end. Though I looked online, and apparently if you play a different custom game, and then switch to another one, it can sometimes fuck with the LAN and throw you out, but if you rehost the same game the issues should stop.
Bots are the best way to play on Battle.net, because they host accross all servers, which means more players can join and they greatly reduce the delay for all players. If you use this link, you can host using free host-bots MakeMeHost and if you wanna join games that will fill easily, join the games on this list MakeMeHost. Games on that list are incredibly active and usually pretty diverse. It's what I use to host and play the mapAlso, what happened to battlenet? I haven't touched it in ages, because of the weird hosting bots, and I stopped understanding how it works, do you have to have a special program to join games, or only to host? Why did people stop hosting the way they used to host on battlenet? Also, what are Garena and Gameranger, how do they work in relation to WC3?

If your friends don't own legitimate copies of WarCraft III I believe you can use this service ENT Gaming - User Control Panel - Login. I have never used it before, but i believe it allows you to connect to bot-hosted games without getting on battle.net. though using this service will only allow you to join games on the ENT games list
The map is balanced around a full game, and since some heroes lack healing power they will obviously fall short due to being team reliant.the difficulty is a bit too much for certain heroes to do a single player run
