are the results of our slow internet connection, which also leads to file download corruption... Could someone give me a download link for a Firefox add-on or any Windows utilities which repair damaged/corrupted downloaded files, I'm tired of browsing the internet but I haven't found any..... I also don't believe on download accelerators....

Thanks in advance.... :grin::grin:

I'm getting sick of repeating and repeating and repeating my downloads... Would you recommend a software for me? So for instance that I can leave my download without watching the damn slow download speed while doing my obligations/chores....

Get a new internet. Seriously the only thing to do. :S
Not necessarily. Most times, that is the case, but sometimes people have fast internets but have it configured wrong so everything ends up being slower.

At the OP, try this utility (it optimizes your internet connection to the best settings so that it works at its best): http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php I've read plenty of good reviews about it, so it must work. Good luck.

Thanks I will try it....

edit: I tried the optimizer but when I am setting the network adapter, I can't see the network adapter that I am currently using.

Hey Sephiroth. Thanks for the rep. I was looking through the optimizer FAQ, and lo behold, I found your same exact problem on the FAQ. Here's the link on how to fix it:

Btw, before you run anything, make sure you take a backup of your default settings (I think utility does this automatically though). Good luck.

Thanks again.... I will go to that link... Again, +rep...

edit: Why it does not save the changes when I check the box that corresponds to 'Modify All Network Adapters'. Even when I reboot the system there is no change... ? Is that normal?

You have to press the Apply Changes button after you check the box. Make sure you select that box, then optimal settings before you press Apply Changes. Then you will get the best settings for your internet. ;) Thanks for the rep, I will give a return one to you for being so kind. :)

Yes.... I'm not sure of this but... Is there a change made even if you reboot the PC and encountered that the 'Modify All Network Adapters' to be unchecked?

edit: Thanks for the last time... It finally worked....

Well just checking the 'Modify All Network Adapters' without selecting 'Optimal Settings' afterward and clicking 'Apply Changes' won't do anything. However, if you select 'Optimal Settings' after you check the 'Modify All Network Adapters' box, then press Apply Changes, you will see changes upon the restart of your computer.

Here are the exact instructions from the website of this utility:
- Choose your maximum Connection Speed from the slider bar (the maximum available bandwidth, in kilobits per second)
- Choose your Network Interface, or check to Modify All Network Adapters
- Pick "Optimal settings" from the radio-buttons near the bottom of the program
- Click on the "Apply changes" button and reboot

The curroption is most likly the result of interfearence or connectivity issues. With enough interfearence you can get bitflipping (not too sure if this is the right term) occuring while packets are transmited (where bits are altered in a packet by some unintended source) resulting in them nolonger making sense.

Each packet should be transmitted with a checksum or error correction code to help provide some tollerence for errors however ultimatly it will still be possible for damaged packets to pass such checks.

A curropted download of a working file can occur in only 2 possible ways. Firstly if any part of it gets curropted during transmission but passes error checking. Secondly if some download error occured resulting in the download stopping (canceling) yet still leaving the file. In this case the file might be allocated to the correct size (as allocation occurs before downloading) but parts of it are left empty due to the download stopping.

The best way to combat this is with some form of file download manager. Torrents should not suffer the problems you descrbed due to the extensive error checking their download clients usually contain. For normal downloading however you will need to search for a download manager which will (I alteast imagine so) check if the files download correctly. I thought firefix's download manager already had this built in, I guess not as you sound like you must be using it already.

Ultimatly the real source of the problem I believe is your internet connection. You may wish to check if any other provider will have better service (closer to you) or try getting a better router (more noise resistant) or even some signal booster for the connection may help.
