I have an idea for a mpa which wa partially inspired by Darkholme.

It would be your Basic RTS (or possibly altered melee).

What would be unique about this would be that the units would "grow".
The units would periodically become stronger and eventually become new units altogether once they reached a certain level.

Units nearer water would "grow" faster.
Once a unit "grew" enough to warrant becoming a new unit you would be able too choose a path of development.

If the units were away from water for too long they would start to shrink.

:fp: I am not sure if anyone has done this before?

I am also going to suggest this idea to Darkholme for his "Ent Seed" map.
If he does not bite anyone is welcome to steal it.

Hmm... I have already seen growing units in the map "Darwin's Island" and in some maps called something like "Evolution Wars", anyway in none of these water is important.
I like this kind of maps, the problem in those which I played was that you don't know what the unit is going to look like evolving.
In Darwin Island your unit grows depending on what it kills, but nobody tells you exactly how it works.
An "Evolution tree" (like a tech tree) would be wonderful.

If you don't learn jass....
You could Have units grow by giving them experience this way...

Give your growing units the root ability
-if-Unit Roots
-then-create 24 dummy casters (that would look like roots) 0 degreees, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, etc
--Instruct them to build a dummy building
---If Units are ordered to stop
----Add experience per second
----Tell units submerge
-----If units successfully submerge
------Add double the experience per second

If- Unit Deroots
then- Kill those units and stop the experience gain

When a unit Levels up
-You can evolve it in terms of a few basic things
--Stealth
--Speed-Semi auto Abilities
--AoE
--Spawning
--Furthering your current evolution

just some Gui Ideas

Very true. . .

Jass would help with terrain detection and more specific growth rates though.

I want it to be like if a unit is CLOSER to water they grow faster not just in it.

Thanks for the input

Create More and Smaller Units
so instead of 24, it will be 48....

There are ways around it....
They are just much harder to work with...
