GIF Avatar exceeds forum's limit?

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not. So I'll just ask here first.
It says the forum's limit for avatar is 256.0 KB. I optimized my gif picture several times so I could use it as my avatar but when I uploaded it, it redirected me to this.

my GIF file is lower than the maximum filesize permitted. I lowered it even more until it was around 130 KB but it still redirected me to that page. Can anyone tell me what is the reason behind this?

That often happens if I try to use a direct image link to upload.
It somehow get parsed to .jpg instead .gif which gave me this error.

Does it happen if you upload from your disc?

Yes, it happens if I upload it from my disc.

I tried to open it in gimp, it's fucked up. The frames make no sense.
To me it seems like the compression tools of yours ruins it.

Because it is against the rules of forum to have avatar bigger than 100x100.

So the forum doesn't resize GIF pictures automatically like it does for normal pictures (jpg/png)? That's too bad.

Personally I think the 256kb limit is far too big. It should much rather be something like 32 or 16kb. Not everyone has fast internet and some pay for data. Although the avatars are cached so only downloaded once, a page can contain several megabytes of them currently.

Try it out on Hive 2 and see if it works better there.

Seems it doesn't work better for GIF over there. It asked me to upload an avatar no bigger than 50 KB.
