Avatar limit?

Well, I've been trying to use a couple older avatars I've had on this site before, but for some reason, now they're too large of a filesize to use. They weren't before, has the limit been reduced?

I mean, I can't even use this image as my avatar, and that seems quite strange to me.

Here's the other I wanted to use, but it's way too large.

Strangely though, the default avatars we can select from are even larger than this one, in some cases.

Either way I'm just curious, because it's a little disappointing that's all.

For the other picture too.

See? Worked with the spork, was 12k.

The limit says 19.5k, but I just don't understand how Rui's works, and how both of mine worked before, but not anymore, it's strange.

That's what he meant by an off-site link, and that's what I tried as well. Still doesn't work.

Strange indeed. Rui's avatar was imported so it may have slipped under the radar. No problem there:that avatar has always worked fine (at least from where I sit).

I tested it with your bike and it works fine for me.

Looks like your Computer/Browser or w/e is the problem... somehow.... xD
I would try a different browser. I believe that the Chieftain edits the site using a Linux machine so sometimes things act a bit squirrelly in Internet Exploder. I must often use Firefox or Netscape to apply important changes.

... Still doesn't work.
It's likely that (if there's a bug) only Ralle can exterminate it.

Well I'm not saying it's a bug, I mean, I admit the images I want to use are larger than the allowed limit. I'm just saying that apparently the limit was higher than it is now, and am curious as to why that is.

Like Archian, I have investigated this situation using our administrative tools. As far as I can tell, everything looks kosher.

Chriz. We might have some options. If you can post links to the image(s) (or the images themselves) that you'd like to use, I should be able to upload them and apply them to your account. I could also make them available for all users (if you wish to share them).

Well, if you think they're decent enough to be added to the available avatars, go right ahead and add them. They're the two images in my first post.

I encountered several errors while trying to physically upload a new avatar. If Ralle doesn't scalp me, he might teach me how to do it some day. At present, he, Archian or Bob27 must add new avatars.

I changed your avatar to reference the PASBTN in your Frightening Change icon resource submission. That frightening change seemed to do the trick. If you can't see the new avatar yourself, clear your browser cache and temp files and then re-access the site.

Perhaps any user accounts that were imported were not subjected to the avatar limits. Either that, or maybe the avatar limits were higher in the past, but got lowered more recently.

What is your maximum then? Mine is 19.5 kb, and the trike is well around 30 kb.

Well, only the Chieftain himself (or maybe Bob27) can fill us in on exactly why the script that manages avatar limits is different for each user. In theory, I believe that all users should be equal; in practice, this obviously not presently the case.

It may be due to different usergroups?

I have a little less than a 1MB limit on my avatar, but I wouldn't dream of using anything that huge.
